Patience is a 25-year-old mother who is pregnant with her second child. She and her husband work as a small-scale farmers to provide for their family. During her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family. Patience tragically experienced a stillbirth in 2022, so she has been taking extra care with this pregnancy. She has diligently attended all of her antenatal care appointments and has received comprehensive care throughout her pregnancy. Due to the previous loss and her desire for a successful pregnancy, her doctors recommend that she deliver via a Caesarean section (C-section) to ensure the safety of both Patience and her baby. Our medical partner African Mission Healthcare (AMH) is helping Patience undergo a C-Section on July 11th. This procedure will cost $252, and Patience needs your support to fund the procedure. Patience says, “I am so burdened to pay this bill since I don’t have money, but I know with your support I will be able to deliver a live and healthier baby and also be counted as a mother.”

Sopheakdey is a 42 year old tuk-tuk driver, living with his wife and two children in Kandal province, Cambodia. Sopheakdey's wife works in a clothes factory, while Sopheakdey stays at home with their five year old daughter, since his condition prevents him from being able to work. For the past four years, Sopheakdey has been suffering from chronic back pain. While he has no history of trauma, it is difficult for him to bend, twist, or stoop down; any work or activity causes pain. His legs feel weak and clumsy, so he stays home. Because he cannot work, he worries about being able to feed his family. Fortunately, a relative told him about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre. Surgeons have diagnosed him with spondylolysis, a weakness or stress fracture in one of the vertebrae, the small bones that make up the spinal column. This weakness can occur with no known injury. The most common cause in adults is degenerative arthritis. On August 3rd, surgeons at Kien Khleang National Rehabilitation Centre plan to do a posterolateral lumbar fusion, to stabilize his spine and decrease his pain. Now, Sopheakdey needs your help to defray the cost of the $1500 operation. The money he receives will cover surgery, medication, and post-operative care. Sopheakdey said: "I hope that my pain will be less after surgery, and I can go back to work to help my wife and children."

Sok is an 83-year-old loving grandmother and retired rice farmer from Cambodia. She is married with two sons, two daughters, and eight grandchildren. Since retiring, Sok and her husband have been supported by their youngest daughter, who is also a rice farmer. At home, Sok likes to listen to the monks pray on the radio and visit with her grandchildren. About four years ago, Sok developed a cataract in her left eye, causing photophobia, itchiness, tearing, and blurry vision. She also has difficulty seeing things clearly, including colors and faces, and is worried about falling when walking, so she cannot go out alone. When Sok learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC), she traveled for four and a half hours seeking treatment. On May 3rd, doctors will perform cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in her left eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. CSC is requesting $253 to fund her procedure. Sok contributed $100 to her care. Sharing her hopes for what her life will be like after surgery, Sok said: "I hope I can see my grandchildren more clearly and help my husband more around the house."
