Thy is a 43-year-old mother who lives with her husband and daughter in Prey Veng province. Her husband grows rice, and her daughter works in an office. Thy supplements the family income by selling spices and snacks from a small grocery in front of their house. When not selling snacks, she is busy keeping her house clean or cooking for her small family. Seven days ago, Thy slipped and fell on a wet muddy road. Her left wrist has become swollen, and she is unable to hold anything. Thy and her husband traveled by tuk-tuk for 2 and a half hours to reach Children's Surgical Centre (CSC) where surgeons diagnosed her with a wrist fracture. On September 8th, Thy will undergo a closed reduction of her wrist fracture. Thy is able to contribute $50 towards the cost of the surgery and needs help raising $485 to fully fund the procedure. The broken bone will be put back in place, which will allow it to grow back together in better alignment. After surgery, she will be able to use her hand again. Thy said, "After surgery, I hope I can use my hand without pain and open my grocery store again."

Edvina is an elderly woman from Uganda. She did not attend school and shares there was no education at that time. She delivered nine children altogether, but only six are alive and are all married. She can no longer go to the fields for farming because of her old age and is taken care of by her children. She stays in a three-room mud house with three of her grandchildren. For five years, Edvina has had an abdominal hernia. She reports having a small swelling above her umbilicus, but her family thought that she had gastric ulcers. She was unable to eat comfortably. She visited a couple of hospitals without finding the right diagnosis and would be discharged on painkillers. Her son reports that she has now completely lost her appetite and feels uncomfortable most of the time. At Rushoroza Hospital, surgery has been recommended but her children cannot afford it. Fortunately, on September 15, she will undergo hernia repair surgery at our medical partner's care center. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $170 to fund Edvina's surgery. Once completed, this procedure will allow her to live more comfortably and confidently. Edivina says, “I hope to get well through surgery so that I may live the remaining part of my life comfortable and peaceful.”

Praise is a 9 years old girl from Kenya. She is the second-born in a family of three siblings. She is in grade four in a public primary school within the locality. Her mother is the third born in a family of five children. She said that she left school in class eight, didn’t proceed for secondary education due to financial instability in the family. Her dad also left primary school for the same reason. Her mother has a small kiosk within the outskirts of Maua town in Meru County where she sells all kinds of foodstuff. The income from the kiosk helps to pay school fees for her children. Her father is a bodaboda taxi operator within the town and he supports his family with whatever he gets. They live in a rented two-roomed timber house. The parents migrated from rural to urban areas for better living standards. They left a piece of land but still go to the farm where they plant maize and beans for home use. Priase's condition started months ago as a small mass on her head which kept increasing in size. She was taken to Nyambene sub-county hospital where she was referred to Maua Methodist hospital. In our partner facility, she presented with a midline scalp mass for the past four years. She was sent to a Imaging Centre in Meru Town for a scan which gave the surgeon a plan for the surgery. The treatment is curative, and failure to treat it will continue to be symptomatic and may indicate malignancy. During the interview, her mother said she has been frustrated by national health insurance fund, which she thought could help but will not cover the cost of this treatment. On November 30, surgeons will remove the mass. Now, Praise and her family need help to raise $529 to fund this procedure. Praise mother says, "Kindly help my daughter to undergo the treatment."
