Lydiah is a 36-year-old fruit vendor from Kenya. Her husband is a motorcycle driver, and they have two children, ages eleven and seven. For seven months, Lydiah has been experiencing pain and abnormal bleeding in a sensitive area. After seeking treatment, Lydiah was diagnosed with a left ovarian benign cystadenoma and uterine fibroids. To relieve her pain, Lydiah needs to undergo a hysterectomy, a procedure in which surgeons will remove her uterus. However, Lydiah does not currently have medical coverage and cannot afford the proposed procedure. Fortunately, our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare (AMH), can help. On July 21st, Lydiah will undergo gynecological surgery at AMH's care center. Once recovered, Lydiah will be able to resume her daily activities free of pain. Now, AMH is requesting $1260 to fund Lydiah's surgery. Lydiah said, “These stomach pains are unbearable and very uncomfortable. I cannot go to the market to sell fruits because of the pain. I hope to get this surgery to ease the pain and get back to my job.”

Hope is is a confident and eloquent woman who carries a wealth of stories within her from Uganda. She is a mother and a nurturer to nine children, comprising four sons and five daughters. Despite the lack of emphasis on education during her generation, Hope, driven by a deep sense of determination, ensured that her children received the education she never had the opportunity to attain. Although formal education eluded her, she possesses the ability to read and write, a skill she acquired while educating her children. Hope's life revolves around her role as a farmer. In her free moments, she engages in domestic chores and finds solace in activities like weeding around her home. Her journey has been marked by challenges, including losing her father in 1987. Yet, through her dedication to farming, she managed to provide for her children, shaping their futures with the limited earnings she garnered from her agricultural endeavors. Recently, she faced a distressing health issue—a swelling around her shoulders, accompanied by numbness, paralysis, and pain upon touch. Over the past year, her condition has worsened to the point where she can no longer carry anything by hand. Initially, the swelling was painless, leading her to avoid seeking medical attention. However, as her symptoms intensified, she was brought to the hospital, where a doctor examined her and diagnosed her with a supra-scapular lipoma. On October 10th, surgeons will remove the mass. Now, Hope needs help to raise $137 to fund this procedure. Hope says, “I hope the pain will be no more; I will be relieved from this and will be able to resume my farming.”

Sokim is a 39-year-old rice farmer, who lives with her husband and three children in Cambodia. Her husband also works as a rice farmer, and their three children are in school. On September 28th, Sokim was washing the family's motorcycle when she slipped and fell, injuring her left leg. At a clinic X-rays were performed, which showed that she had a previously undiagnosed tumor on her left femur. Since then, she has been in constant pain and cannot walk. Because she was not able to afford any treatment, she was referred to our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, where a biopsy showed a chondrosarcoma of the distal femur. This is a common type of bone cancer that originates in cartilage cells and primarily affects adults. Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner can help. The doctors at the clinic referred Sokim to our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, for further treatment. After additional evaluation, Sokim has been scheduled to undergo surgery on October 19th, at Kien Khleang National Rehabilitation Center, during which the tumor will be removed and her femur repaired. Now, Sokim and her family are seeking $726 to fund Sokim's surgery and care. Sokim hopes that she will be able to walk without pain and continue with her rice farming after she has recovered.
