Francis is a small-scale farmer from Uganda. He completed primary school and dropped out of school after losing his father. He lives with his wife, and the two stay in a six-room mud house. They have had 14 children altogether. For 15 years, Francis has had a swelling in a sensitive area that started small and painlessly but later increased in size. At some point, he decided to seek help from doctors and he shared that he has spent a lot of money by selling land and selling cows, and regrets having done so because they could not help him and left him bankrupt. The swelling has become painful to the extent that he can no longer practice farming, affecting his productivity negatively. Fortunately, on September 15, he is scheduled to undergo hernia repair surgery at our medical partner's care center. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $170 to fund Francis's surgery. Once completed, this procedure will hopefully allow him to live more comfortably and confidently. Francis says, “I hope to be well again after surgery so that I may farm again and live a better life.”

Ateikas is a 68-year-old retired fish seller from Kampong Cham province in Cambodia. She is widowed and has five sons, three daughters, and sixteen grandchildren. Ever since her husband passed away seven years ago, her children and grandchildren have looked after her. About one year ago, Ateikas developed a cataract in her right eye, causing her to experience itchiness, tearing, and blurry vision. Her impaired vision also makes her more dependent on her extended family. When Ateikas learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, she traveled for four and a half hours seeking treatment. On May 2nd, doctors at Kien Khleang National Rehabilitation Centre will perform small incision cataract surgery and implant an intraocular lens in her right eye. After recovery, Ateikas should regain both her vision and independence. Now, she needs your help to fund this $253 procedure. Ateikas shared: "I hope after surgery my eye can see more clearly, and I can help with my grandchildren at home."

John is a 2-month-old baby from Tanzania. He resides in a modest home with his parents and two siblings. His mother is a devoted stay-at-home mother, while his father works as a carpenter. His father’s income is enough to cover the family’s basic needs. After John's birth, the doctors realized he was born with a congenital condition and advised his mother to seek specialized care. His right foot was twisted inward and downward. They started him on casting at the hospital for three weeks, hoping it might help him heal. However, it became apparent that his condition was more complex and would require surgical intervention as the only viable option to give John a chance at a more mobile and fulfilling life. However, the financial burden proved to be overwhelming for John’s family. Living on a modest income, they could not afford the surgical treatment cost. They had to make a hard decision to stop their son’s treatment. Sometime after discontinuing their son’s treatment, John’s mother learned about our medical partner the Plaster House and the services it provides. Fueled by love and hope for her son, she sought assistance from the center. John underwent a comprehensive wellness assessment; however, the family cannot raise money for his treatment and is appealing for financial assistance. John has clubfoot on his right foot. Clubfoot is a condition in which the foot is twisted out of shape. This causes difficulty walking and even wearing shoes. The Plaster House team will begin clubfoot treatment on September 19. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is requesting $935 to fund John's clubfoot repair. After treatment and as he grows he will be able to walk comfortably, wear shoes, enjoy playtime with his peers, and reassure his parents that their son is free from disability. John’s mother says: “I hope my son’s treatment will be smooth and he will turn out okay after his treatment.”
