Panha is a 64-year-old journalist. He has two sons, three daughters, and three grandchildren. Panha lives with his wife and their youngest daughter. Nowadays, Panha can not go to work because of his poor vision. He enjoys listening to the news from his phone.
Three years ago, Panha developed a cataract in his right eye, causing him blurry vision, photophobia, and tearing. He has difficulty seeing things clearly, recognizing faces, and going anywhere outside.
When Panha learned about our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, he traveled for two and a half hours seeking treatment. On September 1st, doctors will perform a phacoemulsification cataract surgery and will place an intraocular lens implant in his right eye. After recovery, he will be able to see clearly. Now, he needs help to fund this $229 procedure.
Panha said, “I hope I can see clearly so I can work well, read, write, and drive my motorbike well.”

Panha for vision-restoring cataract eye surgery.
Before receiving treatment, it was hard for Panha to admit he had such poor vision, and he was afraid that he might not see his children or grandchildren’s faces again. Panha’s surgery was successful and immediately after surgery, he could see through the holes in the patch he was wearing. At his post-operative visit, Panha was delighted at how well he could see. Thanks to this surgery, Panha can read and write again for work and looks forward to a more prosperous life.
His wife said: “I feel happy that he can see well so he can go back to continue his work. He can manage by himself and I won’t have to worry about his eye.”
