Rose is a 44-year-old wife and mother of two children from Haiti. She lives in a small town in central Haiti with her husband, two children, and her sister and her sister's children. Unfortunately, she has been too unwell to work for over five years, but previously sold electronics in a local market. Rose has a cardiac condition called rheumatic mitral regurgitation. One of the four valves of her heart was severely damaged as a result of rheumatic fever a number of years ago. Her heart cannot adequately pump blood through her body, leaving her tired and short of breath. Fortunately, our medical partner, Haiti Cardiac Alliance (HCA), is helping Rose receive treatment. She will fly to the Dominican Republic for her surgery. On January 27th, she will undergo cardiac surgery, during which surgeons will remove her diseased mitral valve and implant an artificial replacement. HCA is contributing $12,000 to cover the cost of Rose's procedure, but she and her family also need help funding the costs of surgery prep. Rose and her family need help raising $1,500 to cover labs, medicine, check-ups and follow-up appointments. This money will also support passport obtainment and the social workers from HCA that will accompany Rose's family overseas. Rose shared, "I have felt very sick for a very long time, and I am very hopeful that this surgery will bring me relief and new energy!"

Juliet is a 62-year-old farmer from Uganda. She is a mother of 7 children. Five of the children have completed schooling, while two are currently in school. Juliet and her husband practice small-scale farming. Ten years ago, Juliet began to experience troubling symptoms, including swelling, fatigue, and swallowing difficulties. She was diagnosed with multinodular goiter. She went to Nyakibale for care and was recommended surgery as treatment. Without treatment, she is at risk of further complications from the goiter, which might worsen due to existing hypertension. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is helping Juliet receive treatment. She is scheduled to undergo a thyroidectomy on February 7th at our medical partner's care center. Surgeons will remove all or part of her thyroid gland. This procedure will cost $252, and she and her family need help to raise the funds. Juliet says “I am the lady who tries my best to have good health but this time I am poor enough to afford anything in regard to surgery. I pray that you consider me to have my health restored and I live well through farming.”

Saravotey is a 12-year-old student in grade three. She is an only child and lives with her mother and grandparents in Phnom Penh province. Sadly, her father was killed in a tragic accident one year ago. Her mother is a food seller from a grocery store in front of the family home, and her grandparents help to take care of her. As an only child, she usually plays alone but enjoys playing a traditional folk game that is popular for Cambodian children to play. In school, she likes mathematics and has decided she wants to be a superstar! Ten days ago, she placed plastic in both her ears. Both of her ears are now painful and swollen. She cannot hear well, will not attend school, and is very unhappy. Doctors attempted to remove it manually but were unsuccessful. Saravotey will need to be under sedation to have the foreign bodies removed. Saravotey traveled to our medical partner's care center to receive treatment. On March 3rd, surgeons at our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC), will remove the masses in her ears. Now, Saravotey's family needs help to raise $273 to fund this procedure. Her mother said: "I am concerned about something my daughter put in her ear may destroy her ear drum and get hearing loss forever. I hope the doctors can remove it."
