Judith is a small-scale farmer from Uganda. When she was young, she was in school only up to the 7th grade due to limited financial support from her parents. She now does farming together with her husband and it is through the sale of their farm produce that they are able to pay school fees for their three children. They live in a three-room mud house that was given to them by her father-in-law. Six years ago, Judith began to experience neck swelling that was noticed by her friends. They advised her to use herbs but that did not help. The swelling is painless except when she touches it. She has mild airway obstruction especially when she walks up the hill and when singing in church, which she loves to do. Last year she visited a doctor at Kabale Referral Hospital to seek treatment. Judith was diagnosed with a multi-nodular goiter and needs surgery to prevent her symptoms from getting worse. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is helping Judith receive treatment. She is scheduled to undergo a thyroidectomy on September 22 at our medical partner's care center. Surgeons will remove all or part of her thyroid gland. This procedure will cost $333, and she and her family need help raising money. Judith says, “I believe that I will be singing in church comfortably again one day soon and hope to be able to proceed with farming for my family’s survival.”

Ny is a 66-year-old widow from Kratie province. She has one son, two daughters, and five grandchildren. Now retired, she spent most of her life working as a cleaner in the Kratie provincial hall and government offices. Her husband recently passed away from kidney failure, and Ny has since moved in with her oldest daughter, who is a rice farmer. Around two years ago, Ny developed a cataract in her right eye. Her symptoms include itchiness, tearing, and blurry vision. Because her vision is impaired, she is reluctant to go out on her own. Our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, is here to help. On September 6th, doctors at Kien Khleang National Rehabilitation Centre will perform small incision cataract surgery, and implant an intraocular lens in Ny's right eye. She should regain full vision after she has recovered from the surgery. Now Ny needs your help to fund this $253 procedure. Ny shared: "I want to be able to see so I can visit with my relatives and enjoy my life."

Mean is a 26-year-old taxi driver who needs surgery on his leg. He lives in Prey Veng province with his parents and younger sister. His parents are mango farmers, and his sister works in a nearby clothing factory. In his free time, Mean likes checking his social media and spending time with his friends. In January 2019, he was in a traffic accident that caused a fracture in his left thigh bone. He went to an emergency clinic and doctors implanted metal hardware in his leg to heal the fracture. Now, the bone is healed and the metalwork is causing pain and limiting his mobility. It is often difficult for him to sit long periods in the car for work. Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner Children's Surgical Centre (CSC) can help. On July 7th, Mean will undergo surgery to remove the hardware from his leg. He is able to contribute $100 to his treatment, and he needs only $304 to fully fund his surgery. This procedure will eliminate pain and help him to walk and work easily again. After surgery Mean hopes that he won't have pain anymore and won't need to worry about the metal hardware or infections.
