Sok is an 83-year-old loving grandmother and retired rice farmer from Cambodia. She is married with two sons, two daughters, and eight grandchildren. Since retiring, Sok and her husband have been supported by their youngest daughter, who is also a rice farmer. At home, Sok likes to listen to the monks pray on the radio and visit with her grandchildren. About four years ago, Sok developed a cataract in her left eye, causing photophobia, itchiness, tearing, and blurry vision. She also has difficulty seeing things clearly, including colors and faces, and is worried about falling when walking, so she cannot go out alone. When Sok learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC), she traveled for four and a half hours seeking treatment. On May 3rd, doctors will perform cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in her left eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. CSC is requesting $253 to fund her procedure. Sok contributed $100 to her care. Sharing her hopes for what her life will be like after surgery, Sok said: "I hope I can see my grandchildren more clearly and help my husband more around the house."

Ed is a 39-year-old father from Burma who lives with his wife and two sons. His sons are students, while his wife is a homemaker and volunteer at their church. In his spare time, Ed loves listening to gospel songs, reading the Bible, and preparing sermons for his congregation. In March 2023, Ed began passing blood in his urine and experiencing back pain in his left side. When medication from a pharmacy did not help, he sought treatment at a hospital, where he was diagnosed with a left ureter stone. Doctors want Ed to undergo Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithotripsy (ESWL), a procedure where high energy shock waves are passed through the body and used to break stones into pieces as small as grains of sand. Fortunately, our medical partner, Burma Children Medical Fund (BCMF), can help. On August 11th, Ed will undergo ESWL at BCMF's care center. BCMF is requesting $1,125 to fund the treatment and Ed's care. Ed said, "Because of my condition, I have not gone to church for two weeks. The church members are worried about me and pray for me".

Sophy is from Takeo province in Cambodia. She and her husband work as rice farmers and have two sons, three daughters, and five grandchildren. Due to her deteriorating vision, Sophy has not been able to work as much and has been spending more time at home caring for her grandchildren. In her free time, she likes going to the pagoda to pray and cook for her family. Around two years ago, Sophy developed a pterygium in her left eye, causing her to experience itchiness and watery eyes. Pterygiums are non-cancerous growths of the conjunctiva, a mucous layer that lubricates the eye. The growths occur when the conjunctiva is exposed to excessive sun damage, and the cells grow abnormally over the pupil. As a result, she has difficulty seeing things clearly, recognizing faces, working, and going outside. When Sophy learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC), she traveled for two hours seeking treatment. Sophy needs a surgical procedure to remove the abnormal conjunctiva from the cornea surface and replace it with a conjunctival graft to prevent recurrence. The total cost of her procedure is $225, which covers medications, supplies, and inpatient care for two days. The procedure is scheduled for September 4th. Sophy said, "I want my eye to stop hurting because I want to go back to work and be able to take care of my family."
