Mary is a 45-year-old small-scale farmer, living in Uganda. She is a single mother of five, with her first-born 30 years old and her last-born 14. She owns a two-room mud house for shelter and grows sweet potatoes, sorghum, and cabbage on her small piece of land. Six years ago, Mary began to experience troubling symptoms, including pain and swelling in her neck. She recently visited Rushoroza Hospital after being referred by a friend and was diagnosed with a nodular goiter. The neck swelling has continued to increase in size. She experiences fatigue quickly, affecting her ability to work. Additionally, she has experienced airway obstruction and has been told that she needs surgery to prevent her symptoms from worsening. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is helping Mary receive treatment. She is scheduled to undergo a thyroidectomy on March 9th at Rushoroza Hospital. Surgeons will remove all or part of her thyroid gland, a procedure that will cost $333. Mary needs your help to raise the funds to cover the cost of her care. Mary says: “I had lost hope of living a normal life again until a well-wisher referred me to Rushoroza hospital for surgical help under the donor fund. I hope to resume farming comfortably after surgery.”

Bunnarith is a 35-year-old waiter who lives with his mother in Phnom Penh City in Cambodia. Bunnarith is engaged to be married and is excited about the upcoming ceremony. His fiancee works at a local bank. When not waiting tables, Bunnarith enjoys playing football with his friends on a vacant lot near his home. In April 2022, Bunnarith was involved in a motorcycle collision and fractured his left tibia. He went to a private clinic, where doctors implanted hardware to stabilize the fracture. Now that his bone has healed completely, Bunnarith wants the metal hardware removed to avoid potential health problems and improve his mobility. Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, can help. On May 5th, Bunnarith will undergo a hardware removal procedure at Kien Khleang National Rehabilitation Centre, which will cost $304. This procedure will help Bunnarith walk easily. Hopefully, he will be able to stand for long periods at the restaurant without the ache in his leg he currently experiences. He needs your help to raise the money for his surgery. Bunnarith said: "I want to start my married life without metal in my leg, so I can be healthy. I hope the wound will heal quickly."

Nang is a 40-year-old woman from Burma. She lives with her husband and son in a camp for people who are internally displaced due to conflict in her country. Her husband is a day laborer, while she looks after their son at home. A few years ago, Nang accidentally cut off her left index and middle finger while chopping wood. Unable to afford a hospital or clinic, she wrapped her injury in a cloth and tried to treat herself with traditional medicine. Over time, the wound became infected, and the infection spread up her hand. She later had her arm amputated below her left elbow at the IDP camp clinic. However, the wound never healed fully and became re-infected. Doctors want Nang to undergo an MRI, a scan which will hopefully help doctors fully diagnose her condition and formulate an appropriate treatment plan. Our medical partner, Burma Children Medical Fund, is requesting $814 to cover the cost of Nang's MRI and care, scheduled for March 6th. She said, “I feel sad about my condition. I am looking forward to getting treatment or surgery at the Hospital. I would like to thank the organization BCMF as I am happy to have the opportunity to receive treatment for my wound."
