Sokha is a 64-year-old auto rickshaw (tuk-tuk) driver. He and his wife live in Phnom Penh and have four children. Two of their children are married and live nearby; the other two children still live at home. When not driving his tuk-tuk around the city, Sokha likes to grow vegetables near his home to supplement their diet. For many years, Sokha had an ear infection. This infection caused the tympanic membrane, or ear drum, in his left ear to perforate. This has caused Sokha to experience pain, ear discharge, and hearing loss. He has had tinnitus (ringing in the ear) for many years, which makes it hard to work with the public. He cannot communicate clearly with others, especially passengers in his tuk-tuk who he has difficulty understanding. A relative referred him to our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC) to assess the problem and try to fix his hearing. Fortunately, CSC can help. On September 5th, he will undergo a myringoplasty procedure in his left ear. During this procedure, surgeons will close the perforation, patching the hole in the ear drum. Sokha is able to contribute $100 for the treatment and CSC is requesting $487 to fully fund this procedure. This covers the surgery, medications, supplies, and inpatient care. Sokha said: "I hope to get well from this illness after I have surgery. I would like my hearing to be better and have no more ear infections."

Sim is a 57-year-old rice and potato farmer from Cambodia. She is married and has two daughters, three sons, and five grandchildren. Sim currently lives with her husband and her oldest daughter, who are also farmers. After a long day outside, she enjoys visiting the village pagoda with her family. Five years ago, Sim started experiencing itchiness, tearing, and blurry vision in her right eye. Her condition was caused by a pterygium, a type of non-cancerous growth in the eye that occurs when the mucous layer of the eye, the conjunctiva, is exposed to excessive sun damage. Now, Sim has difficulty seeing clearly, recognizing faces, working, and going anywhere outside. Thankfully, our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC), can help. When Sim learned about CSC, she traveled for five and a half hours seeking treatment. To treat her pterygium, Sim needs a surgical procedure to remove the abnormal conjunctiva and replace it with a conjunctival graft to prevent recurring symptoms. Sim is scheduled for surgery on June 6th at CSC's care center. The total cost of her procedure is $225, which covers medications, supplies, and inpatient care for two days. Now, Sim needs your help to raise the funds for her surgery. Sim said, "I hope after surgery I can see better to plant rice well, and I can help to feed my family."

Levina is a charming 4-year-old girl and the youngest child of three in her family. Sadly, Levina had a twin brother who suffered from a high fever when they were about nine months old and tragically passed away. Levina, too, faced challenges during her early years, as her overall health showed many challenges. However, she managed to survive and gradually saw improvements in her general well-being as she grew older. Levina has been diagnosed with right valgus, meaning that her right leg bows inward. This condition is typically caused by an excessive accumulation of fluoride in the bones, which often stems from contaminated drinking water. As a result, she experiences difficulty in walking. In April 2022, Levina visited our partner's care center and began receiving treatment to correct her leg deformity, as her legs were severely bowed. However, given the severity of her condition, her initial surgery proved insufficient to fully heal her condition. Consequently, she has returned for another surgery in order to progress further with her treatment plan. Levina’s parents are once again seeking assistance to cover the costs of the treatment she began when she was three years old. Our medical partner African Mission Healthcare (AMH) is requesting $880 to fund her treatment, which will hopefully restore Levina's mobility, allow her to participate in a variety of activities, and greatly decrease her risk of future complications. Levina’s mother says, "Thank you so much; the first treatment has helped my daughter so much. We have hope that when she completes her treatment, she is going to be able to walk freely."
