Samnang is a 41-year-old bladesmith from Cambodia. He lives in Phnom Penh with his wife and three of his four children. His oldest son is a monk, and the younger three are students. Samnang makes knives to sell in the market, and his wife stays at home to care for the house and their younger children. In his free time, Samnang likes to watch videos to improve his work skills. In January 2021, Samnang was in a motorbike accident that caused a fracture in his right clavicle. He visited an emergency clinic, where doctors fixated hardware to heal the fracture. Currently, Samnang experiences pain in his shoulder and frequent numbness in his arm and hand. Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC), can help. On May 10th, Samnang will undergo a hardware removal procedure to relieve his pain and improve functioning in his shoulder. CSC is requesting $304 to fund this procedure. Samnang contributed $100 to his care. He said, "I hope to go back to work as soon as possible without discomfort."

Perepetua is a 40-year-old mother who needs surgery to heal an ovarian cyst. She and her husband are both small-scale farmers, and they have 5 children, ranging in age from 2 to 18 years old. They reside in a modest 3-room mud house. Unfortunately, her husband lacks financial support, leaving her to struggle to cover her children's school fees through farming. During her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family. Two months ago, Perepetua began to experience lower abdominal pains, as well as backaches, discomfort when getting up, and difficulty turning comfortably in bed. She was diagnosed with a right ovarian cyst and needs surgery to prevent her symptoms from getting worse. Our medical partner African Mission Healthcare (AMH) is helping Perepetua receive treatment. She is scheduled to undergo a curative laparotomy, a surgery to remove the cyst, on July 7th. Perepetua and her family need help with raising $284 to fully fund the surgery. Perepetua shared, “I pray for a successful surgery so that I may continue with farming and be able to take care of my family.”

Chhem is a 57-year-old father from Cambodia. Chhem, his wife, and their children live in Prey Veng province. They have four children who still live at home - one daughter and three sons. Chhem is a vegetable seller, his wife is a homemaker, and the children attend school and help their father at the local market. At home, he likes to grow a few extra vegetables to supplement their family's diet. Chhem has been suffering from throat pain and swallowing difficulties for several years. A local hospital noted that he had small tumors on his tonsils and uvula. The tonsils are on either side of the throat at the back of the mouth, and the uvula is the small, finger-shaped piece of tissue that hangs down from the back of the throat. The tumors were biopsied, but there was no clear diagnosis. He went back to the local clinic when the pain got worse but could not afford the care. For the past three months, Chhem's pain has been worse. He does not know if he has a disease but knows that he cannot swallow and is in pain. Chhem traveled to our medical partner Children's Surgical Centre (CSC) to receive treatment. On August 11th, surgeons will remove the mass from his tonsils. Chhem is able to contribute towards the cost of the surgery and needs help to raise $273 to fully fund the procedure. Chhem said, "I hope I will receive the right diagnosis and know what the treatment plan is."
