Channa is a 24-year-old clothes seller. She lives at home with her parents who are farmers. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, she is not selling clothes at the market right now, and instead stays home to help her mother with housework. Channa enjoys listening to music in her free time.
One month ago, Channa developed a chalazion, or an inflamed cyst of the tear gland, in her right eye. The chalazion is causing swelling, itchiness, irritation, and redness. It is also difficult for her to see clearly.
Channa traveled for an hour and a half to seek treatment from our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre. On August 26th, surgeons will remove the cyst through a chalazion excision procedure. After recovery, Channa’s symptoms should improve. Now, she needs help raising $187 to fund this procedure.
Channa shared, “I hope my eye gets well soon and the swelling stops. Then I can help my mother more at home.”

Channa had successful surgery at CSC to remove her chalazion. She will rest for a few days at home while her eye heals, and apply eye drops frequently to reduce the chance of infection. Channa vision has improved, and she can be more independent. She hopes markets in Cambodia will re-open soon so she can sell clothes to help her family.
Channa’s mother said: “We are relieved Channa was able to have surgery. She was embarrassed how her eye looked and didn’t want to talk to people. Now her eye will look better and she can go to work to help support our family.”
