Om is a 52-year-old rice farmer. He lives in Kampong Thom province in Cambodia with his sister and daughter. His sister is also a rice farmer and his daughter helps support the family by working in a nearby garment factory. In his free time, Om enjoys gardening. About one year ago, Om developed a cataract in his right eye, causing him to experience itchiness, tearing, and blurry vision. His impaired vision interferes with his ability to work and live his life independently. When Om learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, he traveled for three hours seeking treatment. On May 8th, doctors at Kien Khleang National Rehabilitation Centre will perform small incision cataract surgery and implant an intraocular lens in his right eye. After recovery, Om will be able to see clearly and resume his life free from his current symptoms. Now, he needs your help to fund this $253 procedure. Om shared: "I hope I can go back to working normally and helping my family."

Troeng is a 64-year-old corn farmer from Cambodia. He lives in Kandal province with his wife, who is also a corn farmer. Together, they have six children and ten grandchildren. One of their daughters still lives at home and helps support the family by selling groceries at a market stall. In his free time, Troeng likes to spend time with his grandchildren and watch the news. Ten years ago, Troeng developed a pterygium in his left eye, causing him to experience itchiness, tearing, and blurry vision. Pterygiums are non-cancerous growths of the conjunctiva, a mucous layer that lubricates the eye. The growths occur when the conjunctiva is exposed to excessive sun damage, and the cells grow abnormally over the pupil. As a result of this condition, Troeng has difficulty seeing things clearly, recognizing faces, working, and going outside. When Troeng learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC), he traveled for an hour seeking treatment. On May 29th, Troeng will undergo a surgical procedure to remove the abnormal conjunctiva from the cornea surface and replace it with a conjunctival graft to prevent a recurrence. The total cost of this procedure is $225, which covers medications, supplies, and inpatient care for two days. Troeng contributed $100 to his care. Troeng shared, "After surgery, I hope my eye will be better so I won't worry about it anymore. I can go to work and see more clearly."

Dina is an 11 year-old fifth grader, living in a coastal province of Cambodia with his parents and two siblings. His father works as a rice farmer, and his mother recently got a job in a clothing factory. When he was a year old, Dina accidentally put his right hand into a pot of boiling rice. Since then, burn scar contractures have developed, tightening the skin on his hand and fingers. As a result, it is difficult for him to perform daily activities, such as writing, and playing games with his friends. Dina and his family traveled for six hours to seek treatment. On September 6th, surgeons from our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, will perform burn contracture release surgery at Kien Khleang National Rehabilitation Centre, which will improve the function of Dina's hand. Now he needs your help to fund this $495 procedure. Dina said he hopes that his fingers can bend more easily, and that he will be able to do better in school.
