Princesse is a 7-year-old student from Haiti. She lives with her parents and three siblings in a small city in northwest Haiti. Princesse has a cardiac condition called rheumatic mitral regurgitation. One of the four valves in her heart was severely damaged by an infection she suffered earlier in childhood; as a result, it cannot adequately pump blood through her body. Princesse will fly to the Cayman Islands to receive treatment. On April 29th, she will undergo cardiac surgery, during which doctors will first try to repair her existing valve if possible; if not, they will remove it and implant an artificial replacement. Another organization, Have a Heart Cayman, is contributing $14,000 to pay for surgery. Princesse's family needs help raising an additional $1,500 for surgery prep. The bill covers labs, medicines, checkups, and follow-up appointments. It also supports passport obtainment and the social workers from our medical partner, Haiti Cardiac Alliance, who will accompany Princesse's family overseas. Her mother said: "Our family is very hopeful that this surgery will save our daughter's life and allow her to become healthy."

Sokkea is a 42-year-old construction worker from Cambodia. He lives with his wife and two young daughters in Phnom Penh. Sokkea's wife sells drinks from a cooler at his construction site to supplement their income. In his free time, Sokkea and his family go to the nearby Mekong River to play and go fishing. Five years ago, Sokkea developed an ear infection, which caused a cholesteatoma, or an abnormal skin growth, to develop in the middle ear behind the ear drum. Now, Sokkea experiences hearing loss, tinnitus, and ear discharge, making it difficult for him to hear. Additionally, Sokkea is losing income because he must visit many clinics and pharmacies for medications that aren't working. Fortunately, Sokkea could travel to our medical partner's care center to receive treatment. On May 3rd, he will undergo a mastoidectomy procedure in his left ear. During this procedure, ENT surgeons will remove the cholesteatoma. Our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC), is requesting $926 to fund this procedure, which covers medications, supplies, and inpatient care. Sokkea contributed $100 to his care. When asked about his hopes for the future, Sokkea shared that he wants to get better so he can improve his work and family life.

Oeun is a 63-year-old security guard. He lives in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, with his wife, who is a cook in a local factory. They have one daughter, three sons, and three grandchildren. When Oeun gets home from work, he looks after his grandchildren and plants vegetables around his house to supplement the family's income. About one year ago, Oeun developed a cataract in his right eye, causing him to experience photophobia, tearing, and blurry vision. It is difficult for him to be outside in bright or dim light, making working as a security guard challenging. He has difficulty seeing things clearly, including colors and faces, and is worried about falling when walking, so he cannot go places on his own. When Oeun learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC), he traveled for two hours seeking treatment. On April 24th, doctors will perform cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in his right eye. After recovery, he will be able to see clearly. CSC is requesting $253 to fund this procedure. Oeun's family contributed $100 to his care. Oeun shared: "After surgery, I hope I can see clearly and can go to work well."
