Kop is a loving grandmother from Phnom Penh. She is 68 years old, married, and has six children - three sons and three daughters - and ten grandchildren. Her life now revolves around her grandchildren, who are her pride and joy. Kop used to sell fish at the market until, she shared, she became too old to do so. Her children also support her financially. In her free time, she loves listening to monks pray on the radio. About one year ago, Kop developed a cataract in her left eye, causing her itchiness, tearing, and blurry vision. She has difficulty cleaning the house or using the stove to cook due to her limited vision. She also has difficulty seeing things clearly, including colors and faces, and is worried about falling when walking, so is unable to go out on her own. When Kop learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC), she traveled there hoping for treatment. Fortunately, the doctors at CSC were able to quickly diagnose Kop's cataract and created a treatment plan. On July 13th, doctors will perform a small incision cataract surgery, and an intraocular lens implant in her left eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. CSC is requesting $253 to help fund this procedure. Kop said, "After the surgery, I hope to see better and would like to sell Khmer cheese. That way, I can earn some money for myself and help my family."

Obadiah is a 26-year-old man from Kenya. He is the youngest in his family of three children. His mother passed away seven years ago due to cancer. Obadiah lives with his father and works as a casual laborer to support his father, who is in his old age. However, since Obadiah’s injury, it has been painful for him to work, and they have had a relative come and stay with them. Obadiah needs surgery to heal and is requesting assistance with his medical costs. Obadiah fell and sustained a fracture to his arm last year. At the time, he went to a hospital, received a splint, and underwent a plate fixation procedure. He has continued to experience persistent pain for the last year and cannot use his hand. Obadiah recently received an X-ray, which revealed that the fracture has not united and one of the screws has moved out of place so that the plate is no longer holding the fracture correctly. To finally heal, Obadiah must undergo a three-part procedure to align his bone and return it to a normal position. Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner can help. On April 25th, Obadiah will undergo a fracture repair procedure called an open reduction and internal fixation. Upon recovery, Obadiah’s fracture will be healed, he will no longer be in pain, and he will be able to work. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare (AMH), is requesting $1,145 to fund this procedure. Obadiah shared: “I feel so sad when I depend on people to provide everything for me. I am sadder when I remember that my father is alone without a helper. I am so hopeful that one-day things will get back to normal, and I will be able to work and earn something. Kindly help me so that my father may no longer suffer.”

Sor is a 72-year-old loving grandmother from Kampong Thom province, Cambodia. Now retired, she worked for many years as a rice farmer. She has two daughters and eight grandchildren. Sor was widowed many years ago when her husband disappeared during the Khmer Rouge regime. She now lives with her youngest daughter and family, who are also rice farmers. In her free time, Sor likes to listen to monks pray on the radio and help care for her grandchildren. Two years ago, Sor developed a cataract in her right eye, causing her photophobia, itchiness, tearing, and blurry vision. She often stays indoors for days at a time because she cannot tolerate the bright sun or see in low light. When Sor learned about our medical partner Children's Surgical Centre (CSC), she traveled for four hours seeking treatment. On July 25th, doctors will perform a small incision cataract surgery, and an intraocular lens implant in her right eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Sor is able to contribute to the cost of the surgery and needs $253 to fully fund her procedure. She said, "I hope after surgery I can go to the pagoda by myself. I want to be able to do things on my own and help my grandchildren more."
