Vireak, who is 37 years old, is a rice farmer. He lives with his wife and two sons in Ratanakiri province in Cambodia. When he isn't working, Vireak likes playing volleyball. About a month ago, Vireak was accidentally hit in his left eye while working with a wire. Afterward, he developed a cataract in his eye, which now causes him blurry vision and pain, limiting his ability to work regularly. When Vireak learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, he traveled for seven hours seeking treatment. On May 8th, doctors at Kien Khleang National Rehabilitation Centre will perform phacoemulsification cataract surgery and implant an intraocular lens in his left eye. After he has recovered, Vireak will be able to see clearly again, which will enable him to return to his work as a rice farmer. Now, he needs your help to fund this $253 procedure. Vireak shared: "I hope after surgery I can go back to work and I can earn money to support my family."

Sou is a 71-year-old retired vegetable seller from Kampong Thom province in Cambodia. He is married and has one son, three daughters, and four grandchildren. He lives with his wife and their children support their living. Sou said that he enjoys listening to monks pray at the local pagoda and listening to the news on the radio. Three years ago, Sou developed a cataract in his left eye and started to experience itchiness, tearing, and blurry vision. He has trouble staying outside due to light sensitivity and finds it difficult to do his usual activities. Now, Sou has difficulty seeing things clearly, including colors and faces, and is worried about falling when walking. Fortunately, our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC), can help. When Sou learned about our CSC, he traveled for three hours seeking treatment. On June 6th, doctors at CSC's care center will perform cataract surgery on Sou and implant an intraocular lens in his left eye. After recovery, he will be able to see clearly. Now, he needs help to fund this $253 procedure. Sou said, "I hope after surgery for my eye I will feel happy and recognize relatives."

Salato is a 5-year-old boy from Tanzania. He is a part of the Maasai tribe and comes from a large Maasai family with seven children. His father is a livestock keeper. Due to their remote location, the family relies on livestock and selling cattle as their main source of income to cover their expenses. Salato was diagnosed with genu valgus. His legs bow inward so that his knees knock. This condition is typically caused by an excessive accumulation of fluoride in the bones, which often stems from contaminated drinking water. As a result, Salato faces difficulty walking long distances and experiences considerable discomfort due to the abnormal gait he has developed. This condition has also limited his ability to help his father with the livestock and hampers his ability to socialize with others. During an outreach visit from our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare (AMH), Salato and his parents had the opportunity to attend a clinic where he received education about his condition. The church kindly assisted in facilitating his transportation to the hospital. Upon arrival, the team warmly welcomed him and conducted a thorough assessment. As a result, a plan was formulated to correct the abnormality in his right leg surgically. However, Salato and his parents are unable to afford the costs associated with his treatment. Fortunately, our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare (AMH), can help. Salato will undergo a corrective procedure on August 2nd. Treatment will hopefully restore Salato's mobility, allow him to participate in a variety of activities, and greatly decrease his risk of future complications. AMH is requesting $880 to cover the cost of Salato's treatment. Salato’s guardian says, “He often feels left out when he can’t socialize with his peers. We hope the treatment will help him fit in his society.”
