Jaziel is a 13-month old toddler from Ethiopia who loves to play and laugh with his parents. He is an only child, and his mother works in their home, while his father is a driver for a construction site company. They live in a rented one-bedroom house on the outskirts of town. Jaziel was born with hypospadias, a congenital abnormality that causes urinary dysfunction. Without treatment, he will continue to experience uncomfortable symptoms and will be at risk of cancer and infertility. His mother said, "When the doctor told us about his condition, we were sad and disturbed. I didn't even fully understand the condition. I thought it was something else. I understood the condition after the doctor at Cure Ethiopia explained it to me; I felt a bit relieved, but it was a hard year." Fortunately, Jaziel is now scheduled to undergo corrective surgery on October 12th. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare (AMH) is requesting $1,293 to cover the total cost of his procedure and care. Jaziel's mother said, “After the surgery, we hope he will be normal and be able to go to the bathroom as normal as other children.”

Sokha is a 62-year-old woman from Cambodia. She has one daughter and five grandchildren. She lives with her daughter near the Vietnamese border and spends most of her time listening to the radio and helping around the house. Her family earns a small income, with her daughter selling boiled corn on the roadside and her son-in-law working at a nearby construction site. Sokha had to stop working due to her deteriorating vision but hopes to return to selling eggs in the market as soon as possible. A year ago, Sokha developed a cataract in her left eye, causing her itchiness, tearing, and blurry vision. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, including colors and faces, and is worried about falling when walking, so she cannot go places on her own. When Sokha learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC), she traveled for four hours seeking treatment. On August 7th, doctors will perform cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in her left eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. CSC is requesting $253 to fund this surgery. Sokha contributed $50 to her care. Sokha said, "I hope, after surgery, I can see clearly again. I could help my daughter sell corn or return to work at the market."

Phanith is an 18-year-old construction worker from Cambodia. He recently married and lives in Kampong Speu province with his wife, who works in a shoe factory, and her parents. In his free time, Phanith likes to exercise to keep in shape for his physically demanding job, as well as play volleyball with his friends. In January 2023, Phanith fractured his right arm (humerus bone) in a motorbike accident. His family took him to a local government hospital where orthopedic hardware was put in place to help heal the fracture. However, Phanith soon developed an infection at the surgical site, and a friend recommended that he visit our medical partner's care center. The doctors confirmed he has an active infection that must be treated soon, as an infection involving hardware can jeopardize the bone healing process. Additionally, Phanith is experiencing pain and cannot use his hand. Moving forward, Phanith needs new hardware to correct the displacement of his bone and a skin graft to cover the affected area. Fortunately, on October 18th, surgeons at our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC), will perform a skin graft procedure to cover the area and heal the bone, which will allow Phanith to use his arm again to work. CSC is requesting $487 to fund this procedure. Phanith contributed $100 to his care. Phanith shared: "I hope my arm will heal quickly, and I can use my hand again to work and buy a house for my wife."
