Amos is a confident, 28 year old man, who lives with his family in Uganda. Just as Amos was beginning his university studies some years back, his father passed away, leaving Amos without the means to fund his education. He left school, and took on the care of his two siblings, who subsequently also passed away. Currently, Amos depends upon the cultivation of maize, beans, groundnuts and potatoes to provide for his wife and two children. His wife contributes to the family income by working as a casual laborer. In addition to his farming, Amos has taken on the role of chairperson in local groups within his village. Amos first sought medical attention due to persistent abdominal pain, a constant feeling of fullness, episodes of constipation, and occasional shortness of breath. These symptoms have persisted for the past nine months. Initially, he visited a clinic, where he was misdiagnosed with a thyroid issue, for which he received treatment which did nothing to alleviate his symptoms. After visiting with another doctor, a scan revealed the presence of a mesenteric mass. The recommended course of action is a curative laparotomy; however, Amos lacks the financial means to undergo the necessary surgery. In light of these circumstances, Amos humbly appeals for your support. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is seeking $242 to cover the costs of the curative laparotomy, that Amos is scheduled to undergo on August 8th, at Karoli Lwanga Hospital, Nyakibale. Your assistance would not only alleviate Amos' financial burden, but it would also contribute to his well-being, providing him with the opportunity to undergo the crucial surgery that could significantly improve his quality of life. Sofia is a 21-year-old student from the Philippines. She loves to read and is very active in school. She is in her final year of college and is getting ready to graduate. During her spare time, Sofia likes to help out in her family's sari-sari store. When Sofia was in high school, she noticed a mass in her left breast. Fearing their family’s history of breast cancer, Sofia and her mom decided to consult a doctor. Sofia was diagnosed with breast cancer. A mastectomy, a surgery to remove breast tissue, was suggested to rid her body of breast cancer and to prevent the cancer from metastasizing. However, due to financial constraints, Sofia was unable to undergo treatment at the time. Fortunately, our medical partner, World Surgical Foundation Philippines (WSFP), is helping Sofia receive treatment. She is scheduled to undergo a mastectomy on June 24th at Our Lady of Peace Hospital. A portion of the cost of her treatment is being supported by the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation, and WSFP is raising $1058 to cover the remaining cost. After treatment, Sofia will hopefully return to a cancer-free life. Sofia shared, "I hope the operation will be a success so that I can continue my studies, and my mom can stop worrying about my future health conditions. I'm grateful to WATSI and World Surgical Foundation Philippines for providing me with this opportunity to have the surgery free of charge."

Sam is a 53-year-old corn farmer who lives in Prey Veng province with his 26-year-old daughter, who is a rice farmer. The family eats rice for every meal, and Sam sells the corn he grows to supplement their income. Fourteen months ago Sam fractured his left forearm in a motorbike accident, while driving on a rough rural road. He visited a local government hospital, where they placed hardware to stabilize the bones for optimal healing. Due to chronic, dull pain, he is still unable to use his arm and wrist fully, and doctors would like the hardware removed to allow for complete healing. Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, can help. On November 3rd, Sam will undergo a hardware removal procedure at Kien Khleang National Rehabilitation Centre, which will cost $304. After the surgery, Sam should be able to concentrate on his rehabilitation, so that he can strengthen his wrist and grasp objects better. Now he needs your help to raise the money to fund his procedure. Sam shared: "I hope that I can move my wrist more freely and be able to move and grip things easily. I want to grow corn to sell to help my daughter."
