Doreen is a 45-year-old woman from Uganda. She has three children, with whom she shares a room in her parent's home. Doreen farms, focusing her efforts on cultivating crops for domestic consumption. In an effort to support her family, she also manages a small tearoom. For two months, Doreen has been experiencing continuous bleeding in a sensitive area. This condition, accompanied by a two year history of abnormal bleeding episodes, lower abdominal pain, backache, and unusual discharge, has taken a toll on her health. Her symptoms have not improved, despite Doreen's visits to the doctor. Initially, she was misdiagnosed as having a urinary tract infection. However, Doreen sought the expertise of a specialist when her symptoms persisted, and it was determined that she suffers from adenomyosis: a gynecologic condition that causes endometrial tissue in the lining of the uterus to grow into the muscular wall of the uterus. She will need to undergo surgery in order to resolve her condition. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare (AMH), is requesting $219 to fund Doreen's surgery. On August 8th, she will undergo a total abdominal hysterectomy at Karoli Lwanga Hospital, Nyakibale. Once she has recovered, Doreen will be able to resume her daily activities free of symptoms. Doreen says: “I am the breadwinner to my family but with such poor health, I am limited, because I have no energy to work. But I hope with your support, I will be treated and will surely get better.”

Davies is a 14-year-old student in the 9th grade. He is the firstborn in a family of 3 children. His parents separated a few years ago, and both he and his siblings were left in the custody of his mother who is working hard to raise them well. His mother sells utensils in a local market to provide for the family. During the school holidays in March this year, Davies stepped on a broken glass that left him with a deep cut on his foot. His mother took him to a health center where the bleeding was managed and the wound was stitched. However, after a few days back in school, his leg started to swell. He was diagnosed with a blood infection and given medication. The recovery was smooth and the swelling stopped, leaving a small blister on the leg. Davies started to walk again and went back to school. However, after a few weeks, the blister got worse. He has undergone an emergency debridement surgery, he urgently requires a flap cover surgery to heal. The condition has made it difficult for him to walk and attend school. Fortunately, our medical partner African Mission Healthcare (AMH) is helping Davies receive treatment. On September 8th, surgeons will perform a debridement and skin graft procedure to help him walk easily again and resume his studies. Davies's family needs help raising $1,185 to fund the procedure and treatment. Davies’ mother says, “This treatment has really destabilized me and I can't provide for them as I used to. Davies loves school and he really wants to go back.”

Austin is seven years old and a pupil in pre-primary two in Kenya. His father sells household items in Mwiki, while his mother is a homemaker. Austin also has one sibling. Austin has suffered from developmental delays in his growth and ability to speak. He also suffers from a heart condition, for which he is receiving treatment. Additionally, Austin has been diagnosed with significant hearing loss in both of his ears. As a result, his father reports that Austin performs poorly in school and has difficulty pronouncing words. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, wants to help Austin procure hearing aids. After being evaluated, Austin will receive his hearing aids- which will cost $1,171- on March 21st, at AIC Kijabe Hospital. Austin and his family need your help to raise the necessary funds. Austin's father says: “Austin is struggling to study in school. He is unable to pronounce words and do sums in class.”
