Serey is a 21-year-old blacksmith from Cambodia. He lives with his parents and younger brother in Kampong Cham province. His parents are rice farmers, and his brother is still a student. In his free time, Serey likes scrolling his social media and watching the local news. About three months ago, Serey was injured at work by an electric shock. Cataracts are a well-known complication of electrical injury. Following this experience, Serey developed a cataract in his right eye, causing him to have blurry vision and be unable to work as a blacksmith. He also has difficulty seeing things clearly, including colors and faces, and is worried about falling when walking, so he cannot go places on his own. When Serey learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC), he traveled for three hours seeking treatment. On May 11th, doctors will perform cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in his right eye. After recovery, he will be able to see clearly again. CSC is requesting $253 to fund this procedure. Serey contributed $100 to his care. Serey shared, "After surgery, I hope my eye can see better, and I can go back to work."

An is a loving grandmother from Prey Veng province in Cambodia. She is 67 years old and continues to work on the family rice farm as it is a source of income and a way to stay active. She has four daughters, one son, and 15 grandchildren. Sadly, her husband passed away one year ago from untreated hypertension. She now lives with her youngest daughter, who is a garment worker. About a year ago, An developed a cataract in her right eye. As a result, she experiences photophobia, tearing, and blurry vision. She feels that she has lost a degree of her independence due to her limited vision and her symptoms make her feel uncomfortable. When An learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, she traveled for four and a half hours to seek treatment. On May 4th, doctors at Kien Khleang National Rehabilitation Centre will perform small incision cataract surgery and implant an intraocular lens in her right eye. After she has recovered, An will be able to see clearly and regain her independence. Now, she needs your help to fund this $253 procedure. An said: "I hope after my surgery I will see better. I hope to go outside more often, feel better, and plant rice well."

Meriadah is a small-scale farmer from South Western Uganda. She is a third wife, but sadly, her husband passed away in 2004, and her in-laws pushed her out of her husband's property. Still, she managed to get space and build a small two-roomed house, where she lives with two of her eight children. Her children are still in school, and as the only provider in the family, she relies on small-scale farming for a living. Three years ago, Meriadah began to experience troubling symptoms, including severe abdominal pains. She was diagnosed with a large irregular adnexal mass after an ultrasound. She underwent surgeries to excise the mass. Her doctors also recommend a laparotomy, which is a surgery that opens up the abdominal cavity to treat her condition. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare (AMH), is requesting $279 to fund Meriadah's surgery. On November 30th, she will undergo this surgery to greatly improve her quality of life. With tears of joy, Meriadah said, "After the surgery, I hope to be able to go back to the farms with ease and attend social gatherings with ease."
