Nhoeb is a 67-year-old retired rice farmer from Kompong Cham province in Cambodia. She has three sons, four daughters, and ten grandchildren. Nhoeb's husband is a monk and he and Nhoeb live in the pagoda, where Nhoeb helps with the cooking. About two years ago, Nhoeb developed a cataract in her right eye, causing her photophobia, itchiness, tearing, and blurry vision. She experiences discomfort and, because of her impaired vision, she is uneasy about going out on her own. When Nhoeb learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, she traveled for three hours to seek treatment. On April 26th, doctors at Kien Khleang National Rehabilitation Centre will perform small incision cataract surgery and implant an intraocular lens in her right eye. After recovery, Nhoeb should fully regain her ability to see clearly. Now, she needs your help to fund this $253 procedure. Nhoeb shared: "I hope after surgery my eye can see clearly again. I want to easily cook and read again."

Douby is a 17 year old student, living with his Godmother and her family in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. Douby enjoys going to school, and aspires to attain a PhD in agronomy, and to become a professor. As a result of rheumatic fever that he suffered as a child, Douby has a cardiac condition called rheumatic mitral and tricuspid regurgitation. Two of his four heart valves were severely damaged by the rheumatic fever, and his heart cannot adequately pump blood through his body, leaving him sick and short of breath. The care Douby needs is not available in Haiti so he urgently will fly to the United States to receive treatment on February 28th at Baylor Scott & White Heart Hospital. He will undergo emergency cardiac surgery, during which surgeons will attempt to repair both damaged valves; if the valves cannot be repaired, they will be removed, and artificial valves will be implanted in their place. While another organization, Baylor Scott and White Heart Hospital, is contributing $20,000.00 to help pay for Douby's surgery, our medical partner, Haiti Cardiac Alliance, is seeking $1,500 to cover the costs for the surgery prep and transport support, including lab tests; medicines, and follow up appointments. The money will alsosupport the passport and travel expenses for the social workers that will accompany Douby and his family to the U.S. Douby was able to share: "I am looking forward to being stronger and healthier once my heart can be repaired!"

Annet, who is 39 years old, is a farmer living with her second husband and two children in Uganda. Annet's husband is a casual builder in their village. About six years ago, Annet started feeling mild neck pains. She then developed a small neck swelling that started to increase in size over time. She thought it was a temporary condition, and tried using herbs, which did not help her at all. Instead, she began to experience troubling symptoms, including mild airway obstruction, and unusual fatigue, which have impeded her work as a farmer. Ultimately, Annet was diagnosed with a non-toxic goiter, for which she needs surgery to prevent her symptoms from getting worse. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is helping Annet receive treatment. She is scheduled to undergo a thyroidectomy on April 11th at Rushoroza Hospital, when surgeons will remove all or part of her thyroid gland. This procedure will cost $333, and Annet and her family need your help to raise this money. Annet says: “I pray for a successful surgery. I hope to live a normal life once again. I will continue with farming so that I may be able to continue taking good care of my family.”
