Ni Win is a 27-year-old woman from Thailand who lives with her husband, mother, and brother in Tak Province. She works at a garment factory and during her free time, Ni Win enjoys playing with her cats and feeding her little rabbits. In May, Ni Win began experiencing severe pain and bloating in her right lower abdomen. Her left ovary was removed due to an ovarian cyst three years ago. She has been diagnosed with an endometrioma, a type of ovarian cyst in which cystic lesions are filled with cells derived from endometriosis. She has now been advised to undergo an oophorectomy, a procedure in which surgeons will remove her other ovary. Ni Win is scheduled to undergo her procedure on July 12th. Our medical partner Burma Children Medical Fund (BCMF) is requesting $913 to cover the total cost of her procedure and care. Ni Win shared, "I am married, and of course, I want children. I feel sad when I learn that I cannot have children due to my disease. However, we as human beings have our own problems that we cannot always understand. We can’t just sit and feel sad, we have to think positively and be able to adapt to any situation.”

Sor is a 72-year-old loving grandmother from Kampong Thom province, Cambodia. Now retired, she worked for many years as a rice farmer. She has two daughters and eight grandchildren. Sor was widowed many years ago when her husband disappeared during the Khmer Rouge regime. She now lives with her youngest daughter and family, who are also rice farmers. In her free time, Sor likes to listen to monks pray on the radio and help care for her grandchildren. Two years ago, Sor developed a cataract in her right eye, causing her photophobia, itchiness, tearing, and blurry vision. She often stays indoors for days at a time because she cannot tolerate the bright sun or see in low light. When Sor learned about our medical partner Children's Surgical Centre (CSC), she traveled for four hours seeking treatment. On July 25th, doctors will perform a small incision cataract surgery, and an intraocular lens implant in her right eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Sor is able to contribute to the cost of the surgery and needs $253 to fully fund her procedure. She said, "I hope after surgery I can go to the pagoda by myself. I want to be able to do things on my own and help my grandchildren more."

Kiberian is a 3-year-old boy from Kajiado County who needs surgery to help him walk well. He comes from a large pastoralist family with many siblings. His father is a farmer/herder, while his mother takes care of their family and home. Kiberian was born with a deformity in his legs that has greatly affected his mobility. His knees bend inward, while his ankles remain apart. He cannot walk long distances and often falls while walking. Kiberian's father took him to a satellite clinic for treatment and the doctors recommend procedures that will reposition the femur and tibia of each leg into alignment. Our medical partner African Mission Healthcare (AMH) is requesting $1,224 to cover the cost of the surgery, scheduled for June 20th. This treatment will be impactful to Kiberian because he will be able to walk well, play with other children, and continue with his education. Kiberian’s father shared, “The joy of a father is to see his children growing well without any challenge or deformity and I would love to see my boy walking well.”
