Victor is a bold looking boy aged 13 years from Kenya. He lives in Ruthigiti, Kiambu County with his parents. Victor is in class seven going to class eight, and he says he likes playing football. He looked very excited of his performance and love for education. Victor is the second born in a family of 3 kids. His dad does small business of buying and selling chickens. When Victor was about seven years, his mother noticed that he could not feel his testis at its right place. Since they didn’t know the risk they delayed care, until recently someone explained to them the risk of this condition. They brought him to Nazareth hospital and an ultrasound scan was done. Victor was diagnosed with cryptorchidism, a condition in which one or both of the testicles remains undescended. If left untreated, Victor has an increased risk of developing hernias, testicular cancer, and fertility problems in the future. Victor will be receiving assistance from our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation (AMHF). Fortunately, he is scheduled to undergo corrective surgery on November 27. AMHF is requesting $483 to cover the total cost of his procedure and care. Victor’s father said, “I am requesting for support for my son. Though he has no pain, I now know how risky his condition is. I therefore hope he will be assisted to have this surgery and hope he will be able to grow up in a normal way like other boys.”

Path is an elderly retired rice farmer from Kampong Cham province. He is married and has four daughters and three grandchildren. They live with their third daughter, who has a mental health disorder and needs their care. Due to her age, his wife no longer work and their daughters support them financially. At home, he likes to listen to the monks pray on the radio and visits the pagoda whenever he can. Three years ago, Path developed a cataract in his left eye. His ability to care for his family has been compromised because he finds it challenging to be outside in bright or dim light. When Path learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, he traveled for three hours seeking treatment. On June 6th, doctors will performed a small incision cataract surgery, and an intraocular lens implant in his left eye. Following a successful recovery, he will regain his clear vision. However, he currently requires assistance in funding the $253 procedure. Path said: "I hope that after the surgery, my eyes will be able to see better and I will feel happy again. I want to be able to see my family and friends, see the beauty of the world, and worship at the pagoda with joy again."

Lopiro is a 15-year-old boy from Tanzania. His father is a livestock keeper who has two wives, which is common in their culture, and six children. Due to their remote location, Lopiro has been unable to attend school. He has been living with thoracic kyphoscoliosis and bilateral genu valgus for the past five years, which has severely impacted his mobility and prevented him from participating in community activities. Bilateral genu valgus means that his legs bow inwards. This condition is typically caused by an excessive accumulation of fluoride in the bones, which often stems from contaminated drinking water. As a result, It is difficult for him to walk long distances and experiences considerable discomfort due to the abnormal gait he has developed. Our medical partner African Mission Healthcare (AMH) is requesting $880 to fund corrective surgery scheduled on June 27th. Treatment will hopefully restore Lopiro's mobility, allow him to participate in a variety of activities, and greatly decrease his risk of future complications. Lopiro says, "My legs have been causing me a lot of pain when I try to help at home. I hope this treatment will reduce the discomfort I feel when I walk."
