Shashi is a 15-year-old student and the second-born child in a family of five children. His parents are farmers who depend on small-scale agriculture for sustenance and to generate some income to cover their daily expenses. Shashi was diagnosed with bilateral genu valgus, a condition characterized by bilateral knocking of the knees that is typically caused by an excessive accumulation of fluoride in the bones. He first experienced this condition when he was 5 years old. Despite trying various traditional treatment methods, they were all unsuccessful. Due to the fear of being unable to afford the medical expenses, they did not initially seek help from a hospital. As a result, as Shashi grew older, his condition continued to deteriorate. What initially began as a slight bowing of his legs progressively worsened over time, causing immense concern for his parents. It became increasingly challenging for him to walk and engage in activities that required long distances of walking. He was forced to stop attending school because of its distance from home and the lack of transportation options available in his area. His condition has made it difficult for him to connect with his peers. Fortunately, our medical partner African Mission Healthcare (AMH) can help. Shashi is scheduled for corrective surgery on August 1st, and AMH is requesting $880 to fund the procedure. Treatment will hopefully restore Shashi's mobility, allow him to participate in a variety of activities, and greatly decrease his risk of future complications. Shashi says, “It is painful living like this. My legs hurt when I walk. I can’t play and socialize with my friends. I hope the treatment I get will make my life better.”

Editor is a farmer from Uganda. She comes from a very humble family, and she is a total orphan - having lost both of her parents. Editor shared that she never saw her parents, and just heard stories about what they looked like because they died while she was still a toddler. After the death of her parents, her grandmother took over the responsibility. She had no money to facilitate her education, and she dropped out of school before completing seventh grade. In 2014, Editor decided to get married to her husband, who is a small-scale farmer. They lived in a rented house. At the beginning of this year, Editor separated from her husband and lost contact with him. She could not raise rental fees for their home, and she ended up being kicked out of the house. Fortunately, a good neighbour had a free store, and she gave it to her. Currently, Editor and her two children live in that small store, and they survive by working on the neighbor’s farm or sometimes her friends donate things. During her free time, she enjoys spending time with her children. She is currently expecting a new baby. Her doctors recommend that she deliver via a caesarean section because of her high risk pregnancy. This way, doctors can ensure the safety of both mother and child. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is helping Editor undergo a C-Section on November 23rd. This procedure will cost $207, and Editor needs your support. Editor says, "my desire is to safely deliver my child in good health. I am my family's only breadwinner and I don't have money to pay for surgery."

Hosea is a 28-year-old from Kenya. He is the third child in his family of eight children and lives at home with his parents and siblings. Hosea works tirelessly on people's farms to meet his basic needs and spends most of his time at home helping his parents with their farm. Hosea loves football and enjoys playing the game with friends during his free time. Hosea was recently injured while playing football after one of the players accidentally kicked him. His friends brought him to the hospital. His right leg was swollen, deformed, and unable to be lifted due to the pain. Hosea received an x-ray, which revealed that he had complete fractures of the lower part of the tibia and fibula. He was then stabilized with a splint and scheduled to meet with the orthopedic surgeon the following day. Upon review, Hosea needs to undergo surgery to fix his broken bone and facilitate a quick healing process. Fortunately, on June 27th, Hosea will undergo a fracture repair procedure called an open reduction and internal fixation. This procedure will enable him to return to work and support himself and his family. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare (AMH), is requesting $1,145 to fund this procedure. Hosea said, "I am really suffering and, at the same time, giving people a hard time as they help me move from place to place. I am looking forward to getting well so that I may be able to work and earn as before. Kindly help me so that I may undergo this procedure."
