Khetyas is a 73-year-old retired rice farmer from Kampot province. She has one daughter and four grandchildren. Sadly, she lost her husband during the Khmer Rouge regime, thus she lives with her daughter, who sells fish. She cares for her grandchildren while her daughter works, and in her free time enjoys going to the local mosque. About one year ago, Khetyas developed a cataract in her right eye, causing itchiness, tearing, and blurry vision. As a result, it is difficult for her to cook for her grandchildren because she cannot see well in the dimly lit kitchen. She also has difficulty seeing colors and faces clearly. She is concerned about falling or injuring herself due to poor eyesight, so she does not like going out on her own and requires someone to accompany her. When Khetyas learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC), she traveled for four and a half hours to seek treatment. Fortunately, doctors at CSC were able to diagnose her symptoms and create a treatment plan quickly. On May 9th, doctors will perform cataract surgery on Khetyas. Doctors will implant an intraocular lens in her right eye. After recovery, she will recover her eyesight and be able to see clearly. Now, she needs help to fund this $253 procedure. Khetyas shared, "I hope after surgery I can see better and do housework well."

Sokkhet is a 48-year-old mother and farmer from Cambodia. Her husband passed away several years ago, so she is the only source of support for herself and her daughter. Sokkhet's daughter is ten years old and in the fifth grade. Sokkhet is a cassava farmer in the Kratie province, which keeps her busy all day. At home, she relaxes and helps her daughter with her homework. In February 2023, Sokkhet was in a moto accident and fractured her right humerus (upper arm bone). She could not afford a hospital and visited a traditional Khmer healer for support. Currently, she is in pain and unable to use her arm or work outside on her farm, and she is worried she cannot feed her daughter. A relative told her about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC), and she traveled for five hours seeking treatment. Fortunately, on May 2nd, Sokkhet will undergo a fracture repair procedure that will enable her to use her arm again upon recovery. CSC is requesting $483 to fund this surgery. Sokkhet contributed $100 to her care. Sokkhet said: "I hope the doctors can fix my arm, so I can return to my farm to support my daughter and myself."

Chan is a 29-year-old welder from Cambodia. He is married and has two sons and one daughter. His wife stays home to care for their children. In 2019, Chan was involved in a motorcycle collision, fracturing both his tibia and his fibula- the bones in his lower right leg. As he could not afford care, he visited a Khmer traditional healer. However, his condition showed no improvement, thus he underwent surgery in 2020. During surgery, doctors implanted a nail and bone graft to heal Chan's bones. The bones have fully healed and the metal hardware is no longer necessary. Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, can help. On May 4th, Chan will undergo a hardware removal procedure at Kien Khleang National Rehabilitation Centre, which will cost $304. Chan needs help to raise the funds for his surgery, which will improve his mobility and enable him to return to work. Chan said: "I hope the hardware will be gone so I can recover from my injury and I won't have to worry about my leg again."
