Samith is a 27-year-old construction worker. He and his wife have a three-year-old son and a one-year-old son. His wife sells vegetables at a local market in Prey Veng province. They live with his parents, who are both elderly rice farmers. In his free time, Samith likes to play soccer and exercise. In August 2016, Samith was in a motor vehicle accident and fractured his right femur and right tibia. He went to a government hospital where doctors fixed hardware in his leg to heal his fractures. Although the fractures are now healed, the hardware remains in his leg and is causing pain in Samith's right femur. This inhibits his ability to regain his previous strength. Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, can help. On October 24, Samith will undergo a hardware removal procedure, which will hopefully alleviate his symptoms and improve his quality of life. Samith needs help raising the $304 this surgery will cost. Samith said: "I hope the metal will be easily removed from my leg and finally stop the pain."

Meet Abraham, a talkative, 39 year old man, from the highlands of Elgeyo Marakwet County in Kenya. Abraham is a married man with six children who are in school, and another one who is married. He lives with his family members in their rural home, where he works as a small-scale potato farmer and casual laborer. His wife is a homemaker who takes care of their family, and helps Abraham with some of the casual jobs that come his way. Abraham was riding his motorbike recently, when he accidentally hit a sheep that was crossing the road. He and the bike rolled several times before he was rescued by a good Samaritan, who brought him to the local hospital. He was badly bruised, and had significant wounds to his pelvic region and to his right foot. While the pelvic wound has healed well, the injury to his ankle - which was stabilized with a splint - is not healing as well, because so much tissue was lost. Until this injury is successfully treated, Abraham is in pain, and unable to use his leg, which means that he cannot work and provide for his family. Fortunately, our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is helping Abraham receive the care that he requires. On July 19th, surgeons at AIC Kapsowar Hospital, will perform a surgery to enable Abraham to regain the use of his leg. Now he needs your help to fund this $1,478 procedure. Abraham says: "I got involved in an accident that almost cost my life, but I thank God for giving me another chance. I cannot work well due to the state of my lower limb, and I am kindly requesting help so that I may recover quickly and be able to work as before.”

Edvina is an elderly woman from Uganda. She did not attend school and shares there was no education at that time. She delivered nine children altogether, but only six are alive and are all married. She can no longer go to the fields for farming because of her old age and is taken care of by her children. She stays in a three-room mud house with three of her grandchildren. For five years, Edvina has had an abdominal hernia. She reports having a small swelling above her umbilicus, but her family thought that she had gastric ulcers. She was unable to eat comfortably. She visited a couple of hospitals without finding the right diagnosis and would be discharged on painkillers. Her son reports that she has now completely lost her appetite and feels uncomfortable most of the time. At Rushoroza Hospital, surgery has been recommended but her children cannot afford it. Fortunately, on September 15, she will undergo hernia repair surgery at our medical partner's care center. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $170 to fund Edvina's surgery. Once completed, this procedure will allow her to live more comfortably and confidently. Edivina says, “I hope to get well through surgery so that I may live the remaining part of my life comfortable and peaceful.”
