Sovan is a 62-year-old grandmother. She has 3 sons and 5 grandchildren that visit her often. Sadly, her husband passed away due to liver cancer 7 months ago. For the last several decades, she has earned a small living selling groceries from a stall in the front of her house. When not busy working, she likes spending time with her grandchildren and watching the local news.
Three years ago, Sovan developed a cataract in her left eye, causing her itchiness, tearing, and blurry vision. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, including colors and faces, and is worried about falling when walking, so she is not able to go places on her own.
When Sovan learned about our medical partner Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC), she traveled there hoping for treatment. On September 4th, doctors will perform a phacoemulsification cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in her left eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Sovan is able to contribute towards the cost of the surgery, but needs help raising $253 to fund the procedure.
She shared, “I hope after surgery my eye can see better and I can see my family and customers.”
