Samon is a 57-year-old grandfather who lives in Kandal province with his wife. They both work as rice farmers and spend their free time with their four children and their grandchildren. Samon also enjoys watching Cambodian news and boxing on TV. Around two months ago, Samon noticed a wound on his foot getting worse. He has tried traditional medicine, but the wound has not improved and he is in chronic pain. At the suggestion of a neighbor, he and his wife traveled 1.5 hours to reach our medical partner Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC) for further care. Doctors at CSC diagnosed Samon with a diabetic ulcer. This is a common condition in patients with diabetes, with the ulcer usually on the bottom of the foot. Unfortunately, Samon's condition is quite serious with large areas of infected and dead tissue. The best option is to perform an amputation. Samon is scheduled for surgery on September 7th. He is able to contribute $100 towards the cost of the surgery. He and CSC need help raising $479 to fully fund the procedure to alleviate his pain. Samon shared, "I hope I can have surgery so that I can go home and not worry about the infection and pain getting worse."

Claudy is an 11 month old child from Haiti. He is the youngest child in his family. He lives with his mother, father, brother and sister and is very playful. Claudy has been diagnosed with hydrocephalus, a condition in which excess cerebrospinal fluid accumulates in the brain and increases intracranial pressure. As a result of his condition, Claudy has been experiencing Increasing head circumference. Without treatment, Claudy will experience severe physical and developmental delays. Our medical partner, Project Medishare, is requesting $897 to cover the cost of surgery for Claudy at Hospital Bernard Mevs that will treat his hydrocephalus. This is the only site in the country where this care is currently available and the procedure is scheduled to take place on July 4th. This critical treatment will drain the excess fluid from Claudy's brain to reduce intracranial pressure and greatly improve his quality of life. With proper treatment, Claudy will hopefully develop into a strong, healthy young boy. The family is hoping that the surgery will allow him to grow and enjoy a healthy life without further challenges.

Nak is a 48-year-old rice farmer in Kampot province from Cambodia. He is married and has two sons and a daughter. They are all farmers who grow rice, except his daughter who is employed at a nearby clothes factory. Since Nak works hard all day on the farm with his family, he does not have much leisure time. At the end of a long day, he and his wife share chores of cooking and cleaning their simple home. Last month, Nak collided with a cow on his motorbike and fractured his right femur (thigh bone). He visited a local clinic but could not afford the care, so a Khmer traditional healer placed a splint on his broken leg. However, his broken bone does not have adequate stability or blood supply and has failed to heal, known as a nonunion. It is difficult for him to walk or work outside, and he is in chronic pain. Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner Children's Surgical Centre (CSC) can help. On August 4th, Nak will undergo a fracture repair procedure, where doctors will stabilize the broken bone so it can heal properly. This procedure will help him walk again. Nak is able to contribute $100 towards the cost of the surgery and needs help raising the remaining $483 to fully fund the procedure. Nake shared, "I wish to walk without help and be pain-free after surgery."
