Edith is a 58-year-old woman from Uganda who practices small-scale farming to provide for her family. She and her husband have ten children, with their oldest being 36 years old. For the past two years, Edith has had a right inguinal hernia. The hernia is very painful and has grown in size over time. Due to the severe pain she experiences, Edith has visited different medical centers for treatment, but nothing has alleviated her symptoms. Fortunately, on September 15th, she will undergo hernia repair surgery at our medical partner's care center. Once completed, this procedure will allow her to live more comfortably and confidently! Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare (AMH), is requesting $170 to fund Edith's surgery. Edith says, "I pray that I may get well through surgery. I believe I will live a better and pain-free life. I will continue with farming after complete recovery."

Samwel is a 15-year-old student. He is the second-to-last child in a family of seven children. He resides in the Mpanda region and had to discontinue his education during his primary school years due to the remote location of his school, which made it impossible for him to travel long distances because of his birth condition. His parents, who are farmers, work daily to provide food for the family and generate additional income by selling their surplus harvest. To supplement the family’s income, his mother also engages in a side business of selling charcoal. Despite his parents’ efforts to seek treatment for his condition, limited financial resources prevented them from affording treatment at hospitals capable of providing the specialised care he needed. Consequently, Samwel had to adapt to his situation. He assists his family with farm work, although he tends to tire quickly. Remarkably, he has even discovered a way to derive enjoyment from playing football and other sports with his friends. In July 2022, our medical partner's care centre had the opportunity to meet Samwel and his parents during one of the outreach visits. They were deeply moved by how he had found ways to enjoy his life despite living with a condition that could have limited him in numerous ways. Samwel has clubfoot of both feet. Clubfoot is a condition in which the foot is twisted out of shape. This causes difficulty walking and even wearing shoes. Fortunately, Samwel's family now traveled to visit our medical partner's care center, The Plaster House NGO. There, the team will begin clubfoot treatment on September 15. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is requesting $935 to fund Samwel's clubfoot repair. After treatment, he will be able to walk comfortably and play sports even better. Samwel says, “I feel like this is a blessing. I once thought I was meant to live with this condition for life. I hope this treatment will enable me to work harder and enjoy sports better.”

Meet Vibol - a 49 year old a farmer living in Svay Reng province with his wife, who is also a farmer. They have three sons - one of whom is married, one of whom works with Vibol and his wife on the farm, while the youngest son studies at the local public school. For the past three years, Vibol has suffered from nasal infections and congestion, difficulty breathing, and headaches. This has adversely affected his everyday life, as well as his ability to sleep through the night. He has tried a number of medicines, but nothing has helped to relieve Vibol's symptoms. A relative told Vibol about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC), where disabled Cambodians can receive care. Vibol and his wife traveled for three hours to consult with the doctors at CSC, who diagnosed him with nasal polyps. They recommended that Vibol undergo nasal reconstruction, to clear the nasal passages, and to restore his breathing. On September 12th, doctors at Kien Khleang National Rehabilitation Centre will perform a nasal polypectomy to remove the polyps. After he has recovered, Vibol should be able to breathe more easily. Now he needs your help to fund this $333 procedure. Vibol's wife said: "We hope Vibol will get well from this disease after surgery, he will breathe easier, and his headaches will finally stop."
