Kong is a 76-year-old retired rice farmer from Cambodia. She and her husband have a big family, with thirteen children (eight sons and five daughters) and thirty grandchildren. All of their children work as farmers, and, now that they are grown, they help support Kong and her husband. In her free time, Kong shared that she enjoys visiting the local village pagoda to pray. About a year ago, Kong developed a cataract in her left eye, causing her to experience itchiness, tearing, and blurry vision. As a result, she has difficulty seeing things clearly, including colors and faces, and is worried about falling when walking, so she cannot go places on her own. When Kong learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC), she traveled for three hours seeking treatment. On June 22nd, doctors will perform cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in her left eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. CSC is requesting $253 to fund this procedure. Kong contributed $100 to her care. Kong said, "I hope I can do more after surgery. I want to be able to go to the pagoda on my own again and visit with my friends in the village without being scared of falling."

Joseph is a 37-year-old, hard working man. He is married and a father of two children aged 7 and 2 years old. Joseph does casual work at construction sites, while his wife takes care of their young children. Unfortunately, on Friday, 24th March, as he was going home from work, Joseph was hit by a hit-and-run motorcyclist. An X-ray confirmed that he was injured on the right side of the body and sustained a closed fracture of his right humerus (upper arm bone). Joseph is in pain, and is unable to use his hand for work. Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner can help. On April 6th, Joseph will undergo a fracture repair procedure, called an open reduction and internal fixation. He will heal, no longer be in pain and can resume working. Now, our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $1,049 to fund this procedure. Joseph lamented, “I am the only breadwinner of my family; they are all dependent on me. I am begging for help so that soon I can be well to continue supporting my family.”

Srean is a retired rice farmer from Prey Veng province. He is 53 years old and married with two sons and one grandchild. Several years ago, Srean's wife lost her hand in a brick kiln accident, so Srean helps with many household chores. His oldest son, a construction worker, financially supports Srean and his wife. At home, Srean and his wife like to listen to the news on the radio. Several years ago, Srean developed a cataract in his right eye, causing blurred vision. He has difficulty seeing things clearly, including colors and faces, and is worried about falling when walking. His condition has also taken a mental toll, as he oftens feels disheartened by his difficulty helping his wife with daily chores like he used to. When Srean learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC), he traveled for three hours seeking treatment. On July 14th, Srean will undergo cataract surgery at CSC's care center. After recovery, he will be able to see clearly. Now, Srean needs help to fund this $253 procedure. Srean said "I hope after surgery I can see better, go outside, and perhaps plant rice again."
