Monak is a 63-year-old tailor from Cambodia. She has one son, four daughters, and four grandchildren. When she has free time, she enjoys watching the news and Khmer dramas on television.
Three years ago, Monak developed a cataract in her left eye, causing her photophobia and blurry vision. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, recognizing faces, and going anywhere outside.
When Monak learned about our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, she traveled their seeking treatment. On January 9th, doctors will perform a phacoemulsification cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in her left eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Now, she needs help to fund this $229 procedure.
“I hope that I can see better so I can return to my work as a tailor, and be able to go outside on my own again,” she shared.

Monak underwent eye surgery.
Monak has returned home after a quick and successful surgery. Monak’s visual acuity has improved, which will greatly improve her quality of life. She looks forward to being able to go places independently and see her grandchildren’s faces. Her daughter also feels happy that she doesn’t have to worry about her mother’s vision loss anymore.
“I am so happy that after my surgery I can see everything clearly again, just like before. Now, I can continue my work as a tailor, and return to my regular activities and go anywhere I want to outside on my own,” Monak said.
