Sephania is a baby from Simanjiro, Arusha in Tanzania. He lives among the Maasai people. He comes from a large family of six siblings, raised by a single mother. His father died shortly after he was born, and his mother depends on her brothers, who are cattle breeders. They help provide basic needs for the family since his mother does not work and has no means to earn a living. Sephania was born with both his legs twisted inward and downward. His mother was informed that there was treatment for the condition. She could not afford transport money at the time and had to wait for almost 2 years before she was able to collect enough money to travel to a medical center. She arrived at our center with an escort, who helped her translate as she only speaks Maasai. After a brief assessment with our team, we set up a treatment plan for Sephania, starting with a series of castings. Sephania has clubfoot on both feet. Clubfoot is a condition in which the foot is twisted out of shape. This causes difficulty walking and even wearing shoes. Fortunately, Sephania traveled to visit our medical partner's care center, Arusha Lutheran Medical Centre. There, surgeons will perform clubfoot repair surgery on May 12th. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $935 to fund Sephania's clubfoot repair. After treatment, he will be able to walk easily. Sephania’s mother says, "It has taken a while to be able to come for treatment. I hope my son will get treatment that will help with his foot’s condition."

Collins is a handsome, two-year-old boy living in Roysambu, Kenya, with his parents and two siblings. Collins' mother is a housewife while his father works as a driver. In June 2022, Collins was diagnosed with cryptorchidism, a condition in which one or both testicles remains undescended. Surgery was performed in July 2022, but about a month ago, Collins' mother noticed that his testis had retreated into his groin again. The surgeon ordered a repeat orchidopexy- corrective surgery- which the family cannot afford and the NHIF has refused to pay for. They have been told that without surgery, Collins has an increased risk of developing hernias and testicular cancer, as well as experiencing fertility issues in the future. Fortunately, Collins will be receiving assistance from our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation. He is now scheduled to undergo corrective surgery on March 20th at Nazareth Hospital. African Mission Healthcare Foundation is requesting $483 to cover the total cost of Collins' procedure and care. “I am disappointed NHIF could not help us; I still hope that my baby is treated soon since I was explained the risks. We ask for your support so that he can get back to his normal growth like other boys,” said Collins' mother

Deodanta is a 77-year-old mother from Uganda. She has nine children, but has sadly lost two. In 2013, she also sadly lost her husband. She lives in a four-room mud house, and her children range in age from 32 to 51 years old. Deodanta practices small-scale farming for a living. When she was about 20 years old, Deodanta began to experience troubling symptoms, including pain in her neck. When she gave birth, she developed a small painless swelling in her neck. Over time, her condition worsened, as the swelling grew in size and became painful. Now, most of the time, she experiences headaches and she can no longer hear properly. She also gets fatigued easily and has difficulty breathing when sleeping. She has had to stop farming due to her condition. Deodanta has been diagnosed with a non-toxic multinodular goiter, and requires surgery to prevent her symptoms from worsening. Fortunately, our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare (AMH), is helping Deodanta receive treatment. On January 6th, she will undergo a thyroidectomy at AMH's care center, where surgeons will remove all or part of her thyroid gland. Now, she and her family need help raising $333 to fund her procedure and care. Deodanta shared, “I hope and pray that I may get well through surgery so that I may be able to take care of myself. I hope to be able to supervise my crop fields after complete recovery.”
