Ratha lives in Phnom Penh with her parents and two siblings. Her mom stays at home to care for the kids, and her dad works in a printing shop. Her favorite things are eating pizza and riding her bike with her 10 year-old brother. Ratha has been diagnosed with bilateral genu varum, also known as bow legs. Ratha's condition is severe, with her legs turned inwards, which makes it difficult for her to walk and play. Fortunately, doctors at our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, can help improve her mobility. Small plates are used to correct a deformity affecting the angle of the bone. They are inserted into one side of the growth plate, guiding growth of the limbs until they are straight. On September 13th, she will undergo surgery at Kien Khleang Rehabilitation Centre to help resolve her condition. Now she and her family need your help to fund the $521 cost of the surgery. Her mother hopes she is healthy soon and shared that she hopes surgery can help her daughter play with her friends and ride her bike more easily.

Cheng is a 78-year-old retired rice farmer from Cambodia. Her husband passed away during the Khmer Rouge regime, and she lives with her elderly sister. Previously, they farmed rice to eat and sell at the local market until they could no longer manage the farm. They are now supported by relatives. Cheng works hard to maintain her home and enjoys going to the local pagoda in her free time to listen to the monks pray and cook meals for them. About three years ago, Cheng developed a cataract in her left eye, causing her to experience itchiness, tearing, and blurry vision. She can no longer walk by herself to the village pagoda during the day, as she cannot see well in bright light and needs help navigating the muddy streets during the monsoon season. She also has difficulty seeing things clearly, including colors and faces, and is worried about falling when walking, so she cannot go out alone. When Cheng learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC), she traveled for four and a half hours seeking treatment. On August 1st, doctors will perform cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in her left eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Now, she needs help to fund this $253 procedure. Cheng shared, "I hope, after surgery, I can see better. I want to plant some vegetables around the house to help our diet and give them to the neighbors. I do not want to be a burden to my neighbors or my sister."

Vangilista is a small-scale farmer in southwestern Uganda. She is in her 50s, and a mother of 7 children, all of whom have either completed school or are still in school. Vangilista did not receive formal schooling herself. She raised her children with the money she earns from farming. However, the land she farms is small, and most of her effort is focused on producing enough to feed her family. Any surplus is sold to generate income for sustaining her family. Two years ago, Vangilista began experiencing heavy bleeding, lower abdominal pain, backache, and other worrying symptoms. She has been diagnosed with uterine fibroids. Vangilista needs to undergo a total hysterectomy, a procedure in which surgeons will remove her uterus. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is requesting $219 to fund Vangilista's surgery. On August 24th, she will undergo gynecological surgery at our medical partner's care center. Once recovered, Vangilista will be able to resume her daily activities free of pain. Vangilista says, “I hope when I am operated on, bleeding will stop plus all my other symptoms. I hope to get your support because I have nowhere to get money to pay for my surgery.”
