Agnes is a mother of three children, aged between 3 to 7 years old. She works as a tailor who mends clothes for a living while her husband works on construction sites. Income from this job is inconsistent and often negligible. They live in a one-room rental house in a semi-rural town. Earlier this month, Agnes was involved in a road accident while traveling from church. She reports that the brakes of the car they were traveling in failed and they rolled off the road. She was rushed to Kijabe Hospital where she was stabilized and an X-ray revealed a right distal radius fracture. It is difficult for her to use her hand, and she is in constant pain. Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner can help. On July 14th, Agnes will undergo a fracture repair procedure, called an open reduction and internal fixation. This procedure will help her heal without a deformity. It will also enable her to use her hand again. Now, our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is requesting $1,500 to fund this procedure. Agnes says, “This accident got us unaware. I broke my arm but I am glad it can be rectified. I thank God my life was saved but I still need this treatment to avoid having a deformity. ”

Somaly's parents are rice farmers in Svay Rieng province. Two of her brothers are eleven and two, and two of her sisters are ten and one. They all attend the local school, where she excels in Khmer subjects. When she grows up, she wants to be a policewoman. At home, she likes to read books. For the past five years, Somaly has had slow-growing hard tumors on her shinbone, wrist, arm, finger, and shoulder. Her father and brother have the same condition, called hereditary osteochondroma. These tumors are benign and usually grow outward from long bones. The disease is associated with slowed skeletal growth, bony deformity, shortened stature, and compression of peripheral nerves. Somaly already has difficulty walking and pain. She is embarrassed at school, and her parents are concerned that these tumors interfere with the growth of her leg; one leg is already longer than the other. Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner, Children's Surgical Center, can help. On November 3rd, Somaly will undergo a complex excision of her tumor, which costs $726. This surgery will excise the tumor from her shinbone - removing it can help straighten out her bones as she continues to grow. The cost will cover surgery, post-operative care, medications, and rehabilitation. Her mother shared with us: "After surgery, we hope that the tumor is gone and Somaly will be pain-free and her leg will grow normally."

Bramwel is a 10-year-old boy from Makindu, in Makueni county in Kenya. He lives with his grandmother while his mother works in Nairobi. Because he was born deaf he attends a school that specializes in educating deaf students. Since birth, Bramwel has lived with a clubfoot, which significantly affects his mobility. He walks on tiptoe and falls often. His grandmother brought him to the clinic in Makindu, seeking help for her grandson. With the assistance of our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, Bramwel is now scheduled to undergo angular deformity correction surgery on May 8th. This surgery will enable him to walk confidently and continue his studies. Bramwel and his family need your help to fund this $1,224 procedure. “As the grandmother of Bramwel, I would love to see him walk like other children and continue living a normal life. Any help to cater for his surgery will mean a lot to us,” Bramwel’s grandmother told us.
