Leo is a 50-year-old father of five children, with one child still in school. He works in the quarries and sometimes on farms for subsistence farming. His wife is a small-scale farmer, and they work hard to meet their family's daily needs. Three years ago, Leo developed a right inguinal hernia. This occurs when soft tissue protrudes through a weak spot in the abdominal muscles. He has pain and swelling, and is not able to do strenuous activities with ease, yet he is the breadwinner of the family. Leo went to Nyakibale Hospital and surgery was recommended to help him finally heal. Fortunately, on January 24th he will undergo hernia repair surgery at our medical partner's care center. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is requesting $230 to fund Leo's surgery. Once completed, this procedure will hopefully allow him to live more comfortably and confidently. Britney, who is seven years old, lives with her mother in Thika, Kiambu County, in Kenya. Britney's mother is unemployed and they depend upon Britney's aunt for support. Britney was healthy at birth. However, when she turned two, her mother noticed that her legs bowed out as she tried to walk. Britney went to different hospitals for evaluation, but her condition continued to deteriorate. Britney underwent successful surgery on her left foot in October 2022. Now that she has recovered, the surgeons want to perform an osteotomy on her right foot, which will correct the angle of the bone and enable Britney to walk more easily, without suffering any pain. Britney's surgery is scheduled to take place on May 2nd at AIC Cure International Hospital. As her family was unable to raise the estimated hospital bill of $1,224, our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is seeking your support to fund this life-changing procedure. "I am extremely grateful for the support you have rendered to me thus far. My daughter’s left leg improved after surgery, which you facilitated. I am now appealing for support of her right leg, and God will continue to bless you.” Britney’s mother told us.

Rany is a 27-year-old soldier from Kampong Speu province in Cambodia. He lives with his parents, who are rice farmers, and his brother, who works in an office. When he has free time, Rany likes to play football and have coffee with his friends. In October 2022, Rany fell off his motorbike and injured his right arm. He visited the provincial hospital and was then transferred to a government hospital. He was unable to lift his right arm, but an X-ray showed nothing abnormal, and he was sent home. Several months later, still unable to lift his arm, he went to the army hospital, where doctors suggested that he consult with doctors at our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre. He has since been diagnosed with a brachial plexus injury on his right side. The brachial plexus is a nerve network that transmits signals from the spine to the shoulder, arm, and hand. Injuries to this nerve network can result in a loss of function and sensation, which is why Rany can't lift his arm. On April 25th, Rany will undergo brachial plexus repair surgery at Kien Khleang National Rehabilitation Centre, the only facility in the country where this treatment is available. Our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, is requesting $709 to fund this procedure. After recovery, Rany should regain some function in his arm. Rany said: "I hope I will be able to use my right hand again and return to the army base to work."
