Neema is a 2-month-old baby girl from Tanzania. She is the firstborn child of her parents, who are still quite young themselves. Her mother is a homemaker, while her father is a farmer and livestock keeper. Whenever necessary, the young parents receive assistance from Neema’s grandfather, who steps in to help due to their relative youth and inexperience. Neema has clubfoot of both feet. Clubfoot is a condition in which the foot is twisted out of shape. This causes difficulty walking and even wearing shoes. Fortunately, Neema and her parents traveled to visit our medical partner African Mission Healthcare (AMH), and she is scheduled to begin clubfoot treatment on August 11th. AMH is requesting $935 to fund Neema's clubfoot repair. After treatment, she will be able to achieve independent and comfortable mobility when she grows older, allowing her to wear regular footwear. Furthermore, successfully implementing this treatment plan will alleviate the concerns and anxieties of her parents regarding her future. Neema’s mother says: “I wish my daughter to have normal legs. I am hoping this treatment will be fast and go on smoothly.”

Sofia is a 21-year-old student from the Philippines. She loves to read and is very active in school. She is in her final year of college and is getting ready to graduate. During her spare time, Sofia likes to help out in her family's sari-sari store. When Sofia was in high school, she noticed a mass in her left breast. Fearing their family’s history of breast cancer, Sofia and her mom decided to consult a doctor. Sofia was diagnosed with breast cancer. A mastectomy, a surgery to remove breast tissue, was suggested to rid her body of breast cancer and to prevent the cancer from metastasizing. However, due to financial constraints, Sofia was unable to undergo treatment at the time. Fortunately, our medical partner, World Surgical Foundation Philippines (WSFP), is helping Sofia receive treatment. She is scheduled to undergo a mastectomy on June 24th at Our Lady of Peace Hospital. A portion of the cost of her treatment is being supported by the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation, and WSFP is raising $1058 to cover the remaining cost. After treatment, Sofia will hopefully return to a cancer-free life. Sofia shared, "I hope the operation will be a success so that I can continue my studies, and my mom can stop worrying about my future health conditions. I'm grateful to WATSI and World Surgical Foundation Philippines for providing me with this opportunity to have the surgery free of charge."

Devie is a 31-year old woman from the Philippines. She has three children that she loves and supports alongside her partner. In 2018, Devie began to experience troubling symptoms, including discomfort in her neck, shortness of breath, easy fatigability, palpitations, and difficulty swallowing. Unfortunately, due to financial constraints, she couldn't seek medical consultation. Due to her condition, she cannot work. As time went on, Devie's condition worsened, and in 2019 she noticed a visible lump on her neck. This made it even more challenging for her to carry out her daily tasks. Devie traveled to Our Lady of Peace Hospital, where she underwent a thorough examination. She was diagnosed with Colloid Adenomatous Goiter, a thyroid gland disorder characterized by the development of multiple nodules or lumps within the thyroid tissue. These nodules are made up of abnormal thyroid cells that form small, fluid-filled sacs called colloid cysts. She needs surgery to prevent her symptoms from getting worse. Fortunately, our medical partner, World Surgical Foundation Philippines (WSFP), is helping Devie receive treatment. She is scheduled to undergo a thyroidectomy on July 22nd at Our Lady of Peace Hospital. Surgeons will remove all or part of her thyroid gland. The Philippine Health Insurance Corporation is covering a portion of the cost of Devie's treatment, and WSFP is raising the remaining $935. Devie shared, "I am grateful to Watsi and World Surgical Foundation Philippines because I have been enduring this illness for a long time, waiting for someone to help and for something to happen, and they are my answered prayer. Please never get tired of helping less fortunate people like me."
