Guderi is a 64-year-old small-scale farmer from Uganda. She is the mother of six children, including two sons – one is a teacher, and the other is a builder. All of her daughters are married and engaged in peasant work. Guderi and her husband cultivate their small plot of land. In the late evenings, they enjoy listening to radio programs as they unwind. For two years, Guderi has been experiencing abnormal bleeding in a sensitive area, intense lower abdominal pain, backaches, and episodes of dizziness. Financial limitations prevented her from seeking medical help. However, as her symptoms worsened, she decided to seek help at Nyakibale Hospital. Guderi was diagnosed with right ovarian mass. She needs to undergo a hysterectomy, a procedure in which surgeons will remove her uterus. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare (AMH), is requesting $219 to fund Guderi's surgery. On August 8th, she will undergo gynecological surgery at our AMH's care center. Once recovered, Guderi will be able to resume her daily activities free of pain. Guderi says, "With this bleeding, I was worried that it might even be cancer; however, with your support, I trust I will get well."

Roeung is a retired vegetable farmer. He and his wife have 13 children. Tragically, three of their children died very young in 1979 during the Khmer Rouge. After Roeung's wife passed away, he moved in with one of his daughters and her family. Roeung favorite things to do are spend time with his grandchildren and garden. Around thirty years ago, Roeung had an ear infection. This infection caused the tympanic membrane, or ear drum, in his right ear to perforate. For this reason, Roeung experiences ear pain, ear discharge, tinnitus, and hearing loss. He cannot communicate clearly with others and experiences chronic discomfort. Roeung traveled to our medical partner's care center to receive treatment. On October 18th, he will undergo a myringoplasty procedure in his right ear. During this procedure, surgeons will close the perforation. Our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC), is requesting $487 to fund this procedure, which covers medications, supplies, and inpatient care. Roeung contributed $100 to his care. Roeung shared, "I was told I needed surgery a year ago, but I was too scared. I thought I was too old to recover, but the doctors explained I can get better and now I am ready to have the operation and not be in pain anymore."

Rose is a 55-year-old woman from Kiambu County, Kenya. She is married with three grown-up children. Rose and her husband make a living by doing whatever odd jobs they can find in their neighborhood. However, there are times when work is scarce, leaving them without enough to eat. For the past month, Rose has been experiencing severe heartburn, regurgitation, and epigastric pains that sometimes become unbearable. She sought help at several health centers, but unfortunately, the relief was elusive. Rose walked 8 kilometers to seek treatment at Nazareth's Comprehensive Care Clinic. At the Care Clinic, Rose and her husband reported her health issue to the nurses, who promptly referred her to a doctor. Following an abdominal scan, she was diagnosed with Cholelithiasis. Cholelithiasis, or gallstones, are hardened deposits of digestive fluid that can form in your gallbladder. If left untreated, Rose's condition will continue to cause her suffering, and she may face complications like bile duct obstruction and pancreatitis. Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare (AMH), can help Rose. AMH's doctors recommended Rose undergo a laparotomy treatment surgery to alleviate her pain. On August 3rd, AMH's doctors will perform a laparotomy on Rose. However, given their financial struggles, Rose and her family are in dire need of assistance to afford the necessary treatment. AMH is now asking for $788 to help fund this procedure. Rose says “I have no one to turn to. My husband is the only one struggling at least to get casual work so that we can put food on the table. I need your help to run my everyday life well and at least assist my husband in running our family."
