Perepetua is a 40-year-old mother who needs surgery to heal an ovarian cyst. She and her husband are both small-scale farmers, and they have 5 children, ranging in age from 2 to 18 years old. They reside in a modest 3-room mud house. Unfortunately, her husband lacks financial support, leaving her to struggle to cover her children's school fees through farming. During her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family. Two months ago, Perepetua began to experience lower abdominal pains, as well as backaches, discomfort when getting up, and difficulty turning comfortably in bed. She was diagnosed with a right ovarian cyst and needs surgery to prevent her symptoms from getting worse. Our medical partner African Mission Healthcare (AMH) is helping Perepetua receive treatment. She is scheduled to undergo a curative laparotomy, a surgery to remove the cyst, on July 7th. Perepetua and her family need help with raising $284 to fully fund the surgery. Perepetua shared, “I pray for a successful surgery so that I may continue with farming and be able to take care of my family.”

Ly Huor, who is 14 years old, lives in Takeo province with his parents and two siblings. Ly Huor's parents work as rice farmers. Ly Huor was born with hemiplegia, a type of cerebral palsy that results from damage to the part of the brain that controls muscle movements. As a consequence, patients suffer from paralysis of one half of the body. Recently, Ly Huor has struggled to use his right arm and hand. Ly Huor and his family consulted with physicians at our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre. On November 2nd, he will undergo a nerve and tendon procedure at Kien Khleang National Rehabilitation Centre to improve the position and function of his right hand. Now the family needs your help to fund the $572 procedure and post-op care. Ly Huor's mother shared: "I hope my son can move his arm and hand better and we don't have to worry so much anymore."

Naw Moo is a 27-year-old woman from Burma who has lived with her husband, parents-in-law, two sisters-in-law and a brother-in-law in an internally displaced person camp in Karen State for the past five months. They receive donated rice and dry goods occasionally, but it is not enough to cover their daily needs. Sometimes, she and her husband find work as agriculture day laborers, but work is very scarce. Her parents-in-law are retired and her siblings-in-law are still children. Around the end of July, Naw Moo started to experience light pain in her right lower abdomen which only stopped temporarily with painkillers. An ultrasound revealed that she has a mass beside her right ovary. Doctors want Naw Moo to undergo a CT scan, a procedure in which x-ray images taken from several angles are combined to produce cross-sectional images of the body. This scan will hopefully help doctors diagnose her condition and formulate an appropriate treatment plan. Our medical partner Burma Children Medical Fund (BCMF) is requesting $414 to cover the cost of Naw Moo's CT scan and care, scheduled for September 8th. Naw Moo said, "We cannot go home to our village and now I am also sick. I feel sad but there is nothing I can do. I hope that I can receive treatment so that I can go back to the camp and find work to help my family generate an income."
