Sok is an 83-year-old loving grandmother and retired rice farmer from Cambodia. She is married with two sons, two daughters, and eight grandchildren. Since retiring, Sok and her husband have been supported by their youngest daughter, who is also a rice farmer. At home, Sok likes to listen to the monks pray on the radio and visit with her grandchildren. About four years ago, Sok developed a cataract in her left eye, causing photophobia, itchiness, tearing, and blurry vision. She also has difficulty seeing things clearly, including colors and faces, and is worried about falling when walking, so she cannot go out alone. When Sok learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC), she traveled for four and a half hours seeking treatment. On May 3rd, doctors will perform cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in her left eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. CSC is requesting $253 to fund her procedure. Sok contributed $100 to her care. Sharing her hopes for what her life will be like after surgery, Sok said: "I hope I can see my grandchildren more clearly and help my husband more around the house."

Jennifer is a 51-year-old, small-scale farmer. When she was young, she was in school up to the 4th grade, but then had to stop. She shared that her husband died in 2001 and left her and their children a two-room mud house. She has four daughters who are all married now and she lives with one of her grandchildren who helps her in domestic work. Five years ago, Jennifer began to experience troubling symptoms, including a painless neck swelling that has been growing gradually. After using herbs with no improvement, Jennifer visited a hospital, and a scan was performed. She was diagnosed with a multinodular goiter-an enlarged thyroid gland with separate bumps (nodules) on it. Jennifer was told that she needed surgery, but it was not done at that time due to finances. Now the goiter has continued to grow, and Jennifer is experiencing airway obstruction and periodic severe headaches. Jennifer needs surgery to prevent her symptoms from getting worse. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is helping Jennifer receive treatment. She is scheduled to undergo a thyroidectomy on September 22nd at our medical partner's care center. Surgeons will remove all or part of her thyroid gland. This procedure will cost $333, and she and her family need help raising money. Jennifer says, “I hope to become well through surgery so that I can keep up with my day-to-day farming duties.”

Stephen, a 22-month-old baby from Haiti, holds a special place in his parents' hearts as their beloved firstborn. He finds immense joy in gracing the world with his delightful smiles. Recently, Stephen was diagnosed with hydrocephalus, a condition in which excess cerebrospinal fluid accumulates in the brain and increases intracranial pressure. As a result of his illness, Stephen has been experiencing an increasing head circumference. Without treatment, Stephen will experience severe physical and developmental delays. Our medical partner, Project Medishare, is requesting $957 to cover the surgery cost for Stephen at Hospital Bernard Mevs, which will treat his hydrocephalus. This hospital is the only site in the country where this care is currently available, and the procedure is scheduled for June 20th. This necessary treatment will place a shunt to drain the excess fluid from Stephen's brain to reduce intracranial pressure and improve his quality of life. With proper treatment, Stephen will hopefully develop into a strong, healthy young boy. His parents are excited for their child to be healthy.
