Eliud is a 41-year-old truck driver. He is quiet and talks with a lot of calmness. He is married with two children aged 2 and 6 years and the sole breadwinner for his family, as his wife is a homemaker who does not have any source of income. To earn a living, Eliud works as a truck driver earning a commission on jobs. He shared that depending on the availability of work, his income is often inconsistent and negligible. Following a road accident, he has been unable to work and his family has been incapable of raising funds for his treatment. He is requesting financial assistance as he has no medical insurance coverage. On 12th March, Eliud was involved in a road accident. While driving his truck, he swayed off the road as he tried to avoid a pedestrian and hit a post, suffering a broken ankle and a bruised leg. He was rushed to a local health facility for first aid and later referred to our medical partner at Kijabe Hospital for surgery and an orthopedic review. An x-ray revealed a right open tibial plafond fracture. This is the joint between the tibia and ankle bone. He went to the operating theater and had an external fixator, called ex-fix, put in place to stabilize his bones. He was discharged two days later and advised to come after two weeks for a clinic check-up. When he returned to the clinic, doctors determined that an urgent tibial plafond ORIF (Ankle ORIF) is required. It is difficult for Eliud to walk or work. Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner can help. On April 5th, Eliud will undergo a fracture repair procedure, called an open reduction and internal fixation. This procedure will help him walk easily again and he will be able to resume work to earn for his family. Now, our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $979 to fund this procedure. Eliud says, “I broke my leg during this accident and cannot walk. As a driver, I cannot work because of the fracture. I need this surgery to make the leg well and be able to drive.”

Mariko is a three-year-old boy living in Uganda with his parents and five siblings. He is looking forward to starting school in the near future. Mariko developed intermittent swelling in his inguinal region two years ago. He was taken to a nearby clinic and was given medication. Since his visit to the clinic, he has lived on the medication, without experiencing any improvement. In fact, the swelling has increased in size and often prevents him from passing urine. He frequently cries because of the pain. Recently, a friend advised Mariko's mother to bring him to our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation. Once there, he was diagnosed with a right inguinal hernia and it was determined that he would require a procedure to correct his condition. Fortunately, on May 5th, Mariko will undergo hernia repair surgery at Rushoroza Hospital. African Mission Healthcare Foundation is requesting $170 to fund Mariko's surgery. Once completed, this procedure should allow him to live more comfortably and confidently. Mariko's mother said: “I pray that my son may get well through surgery so that he may be able to start schooling.”

Timothy is a sweet 4-month-old baby from Uganda. His mother sells porridge, while his father is a barber, and they rent two rooms for additional income. Timothy has two older siblings, who are six and three years old. His parents work hard to pay for their school fees. Two months ago, Timothy began to experience troubling symptoms. His bowel movements were infrequent before stopping altogether, and his stomach started increasing in size slightly. Timothy would cry for extended periods before falling asleep from exhaustion. Concerned about her son’s condition, his mother sought medical attention at our medical partner’s care center. The doctors diagnosed Timothy’s condition as an intestinal obstruction, and he needs surgery to prevent his symptoms from worsening. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare (AMH), is helping Timothy receive treatment. On May 14th, he will undergo a curative laparotomy, surgery to remove cancerous tissue. AMH is requesting $284 to fund this procedure. Timothy’s mother says: “I pray my son may get well through surgery. I believe that a brighter future lies ahead of him. He will start school once the right time comes.”
