Mbula is a young girl from Tanzania. She has one sibling and lives with her family in a remote area far from the city; it’s hard for them to access basic social services. Mbula is raised by two loving parents who are farmers. They depend on their harvest to provide for their family. With the recent years' weather changing and droughts, it has been hard for them because they cannot depend on the rainy season for agriculture. This has made it difficult to sustain food at home. Mbula was diagnosed with genu varus, which causes her legs to bow outward. This condition is typically caused by an excessive accumulation of fluoride in the bones, which often stems from contaminated drinking water. As a result, she has difficulty walking and running.. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is asking for $880 to fund corrective surgery for Mbula. The procedure is scheduled to take place on December 2nd. Treatment will hopefully restore Mbula's mobility, allow her to participate in a variety of activities, and greatly decrease her risk of future complications. Mbula’s mother says, “I feel sorry for my daughter, she has to go through pain almost every day.”

Channet is a bright, 14-year-old student, living in Cambodia. Channet was orphaned when he was a young child, and now lives with his oldest sister. In addition, he has six other siblings to look after him. In school, his favorite subjects are social science and mathematics, and he hopes to be a math teacher when he completes his studies. Six years ago Channet developed an ear infection. This infection caused the tympanic membrane, or the ear drum, in his left ear to perforate. As a result, Channet experiences ear discharge, pain, fever, tinnitus and hearing loss. He struggles to communicate with those around him, and he has stopped attending school due to his hearing loss and frequent infections. Channet sought help from our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, and he is now scheduled to undergo a myringoplasty at Kien Khleang National Rehabilitation Centre on December 21st. During this procedure, surgeons will close the perforation, improving Channet's ability to hear, and preventing further infections. Children's Surgical Centre is requesting $487 to fund this procedure, and all of the medications, supplies, and inpatient care that Channet will need. Channet shared: "I hope after the operation I will feel better, get my hearing back, speak well with others, and enjoy going back to school."

Sophal is a 61-year-old farmer from Kandal province in Cambodia. She is a widow with no children. Since her husband passed away last year, she lives alone and tries to support herself. She plants bananas and vegetables at home for sale at her local market. She is worried about being able to support her needs and financing any medical treatment. One years ago, Sophal developed a cataract in her left eye, causing her blurry vision and photophobia. It is difficult for her to go out to socialize, which can cause depression. When Sophal learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, she traveled hoping for treatment. On December 8th, doctors will perform a small incision cataract surgery and place an intraocular lens implant in her left eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Now, she needs help to fund this $253 procedure. She said, "I hope I can see everything and recognize faces clearly after surgery. I would like to plant more crops to sell and support myself."
