Prudence is a small-scale farmer from Uganda. She and her husband have six kids, with their oldest twenty years old and in secondary school class three, and their youngest is six years old and in primary school class one. Prudence shared that she completed primary school class five before needing to leave due to high school fees. Together with her husband, they practice farming for their family’s sustenance. Sixteen years ago, Prudence developed a small swelling on her neck. It has been slowly increasing in size, and recently, Prudence has begun to experience troubling symptoms, including severe pains and headaches that make it impossible for her to farm. Additionally, she has a lot of ear pain and sometimes cannot hear properly. Prudence was diagnosed with a non-toxic goiter and needs surgery to prevent her symptoms from worsening. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare (AMH), is helping Prudence receive treatment. On May 5th, she will undergo a thyroidectomy at AMH’s care center, during which surgeons will remove all or part of her thyroid gland. AMH is requesting $333 to fund this procedure. Prudence shared: “My current condition has greatly affected my productivity. I pray that I may get well through surgery. I will continue with farming after complete recovery.”

Saing is a retired rice farmer from the Prey Veng province of Cambodia. He is 79 and has five daughters, six sons, and twenty-five grandchildren! He lives with his wife and their youngest daughter, who is a construction worker. At home, Saing enjoys going to the pagoda with his friends in the village. About four years ago, Saing developed a cataract in his left eye, causing him to experience blurry vision, photophobia, and tearing. He has difficulty seeing things clearly, including colors and faces, and is worried about falling when walking, so he cannot go places independently. When Saing learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC), he traveled for four hours seeking treatment. On April 25th, doctors will perform cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in his left eye. After recovery, he will be able to see clearly. CSC is requesting $253 to fund his procedure. Saing contributed $100 to his care. Saing said: "After surgery, I hope I can see more clearly, so I can see my friends and join ceremonies at the pagoda in my village."

Olosirian is a 13-month-old baby boy from Tanzania and the youngest child in a family of four children. His parents are from a small remote town. They breed and sell cattle to make a living, but unfortunately drought conditions have made their work difficult and they have lost most of their cattle. Olosirian has clubfoot of both feet, a condition in which his feet are twisted out of shape. In the future, this may cause him difficulty walking and even wearing shoes. Fortunately, our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare (AMH), is helping Olosirian receive treatment. On January 20th, surgeons will perform clubfoot repair surgery at AMH's care center. After treatment, he will be able to walk easily. Now, he and his family need help raising $935 to fund his procedure and care. Olosirian’s mother shared, "our lack of knowledge is what kept us from seeking treatment. I hope it is not too late."
