Ravy is a happy, four year old boy, living with his grandmother in Cambodia. His parents work in a nearby brick factory. Ravy was born with cerebral palsy. He enjoys spending time with his grandmother, and watching shows on YouTube.
Ravy spends a lot of time sitting in a wheelchair, and over the last year, his hip has become dislocated, causing him pain and discomfort. Because Ravy’s condition is difficult to treat, he was referred to the doctors at our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre. On January 10th, Ravy will undergo an osteotomy, a procedure where his hip bone will be cut and reshaped, to facilitate improved sitting balance in his wheelchair, and to prevent additional stiffness and pain for him in the future. Now Ravy and his family need your support to fund the $469 cost of the procedure.
Ravy’s mother said: “I hope my son feels better after surgery.”

Ravy underwent an osteotomy and is excited to be on the move again.
Individuals with cerebral palsy often have an increased risk of hip dislocation due to high muscle tone in the legs, so Ravy and his parents traveled to our medical partner to get specialty surgery for his hip. This included a procedure to lengthen the muscles that are pulling his hip out of the socket. Botox was used as a nerve blocker injected into spastic muscles to temporarily relieve high muscle tone. Ravy spent several days in the hospital with a cast to aid in immobilization, and his mother worked with the physiotherapy team to learn rehabilitative exercises to initiate three weeks post-operatively. It may take up to a year for Ravy to walk, but his parents have hope that he will no longer have pain, and may be able to walk unassisted in the near future. They wish for him to have a good quality of life despite his disability.
Ravy’s parents said: “We are happy that our son had surgery from CSC. We trust CSC with the surgery. We can stay and get the treatment and wound care until he gets better. Thank you to everyone who helps us get care for our children.”
