Sok is a retired rice farmer with one daughter and four grandchildren. Sok shared that her husband passed away many years ago, and now she lives with one of her daughters, who is a fruit seller. In her free time, Sok likes to listen to monks pray on the radio. Two years ago, Sok developed a cataract in her right eye, causing her tearing and blurry vision. As a result, she has difficulty seeing things clearly, including colors and faces, and is worried about falling when walking, so is not able to go places on her own. When Sok learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC), she traveled for three and half hours seeking treatment. On April 19th, doctors will perform cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in her right eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. CSC is requesting $253 to fund this procedure. Sok says, "After surgery, I am hoping I can see better so I can join ceremonies at the pagoda by myself again."

Vireak is an active nine-year-old boy. He is in the third grade and has one younger sister who is not yet in school. His parents are cashew farmers. Vireak likes reading books from school and helping his mother with housework when he isn't studying or playing with his friends. For the past several months,, Vireak has been experiencing difficulty swallowing when he eats, and has difficulty breathing at night. He has frequent fevers and sore throats, which have not improved with local medical treatment. He feels poorly and misses school, doesn't want to eat, and has trouble breathing well at night. Vireak was recently diagnosed with enlarged tonsils and adenoids, which, if not treated, will cause his symptoms to persist and possibly intensify over time. Our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, is requesting $265 to fund a tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy for Vireak, which is scheduled to take place on May 3rd. Vireak's parents have helped to raise $37 towards his surgery where surgeons will remove his tonsils and adenoids, hopefully relieving Vireak of his symptoms and helping him live much more comfortably. Vireak says, "I hope I will feel better and can swallow, breathe better, and stop having throat infections."

Nob is married and has three daughter and one son. He enjoys listening to the news and traditional Khmer songs on the radio. In February, Nob was electrocuted on his right hand, fell two meters, and lost consciousness. He was sent to a local hospital and then a private clinic in the capital city of Phnom Penh. They treatment him with wound dressing and IV fluids, but then he was sent back home. Still in pain, his neighbor told him about our medical partner Children's Surgical Centre (CSC). Nob arrived to CSC with 3rd degree burns and necrosis of the right forearm skin. His doctor has determined that the tissue is dead and his hand needs to be amputated to treat his pain and prevent further infection. Nob wants to feel like himself again and be helpful with his family. He shared, "I hope after surgery I am no longer in pain."
