Linah, a baby girl from Arusha, was born with clubfoot, a condition characterized by the foot being twisted out of shape. To provide her with an opportunity for a healthy and active life, medical intervention is necessary. Unfortunately, her parents, who are self-employed, are unable to shoulder the financial weight of her treatment. Linah's mother earns a living by selling vegetables at the local market, while her father supports the family through small-scale farming. Despite their modest income, they are determined to provide the best possible future for their children. Linah has an older brother who is just one year old, and her parents are acutely aware of the potential lifelong consequences of untreated clubfoot. They believe that pursuing early treatment will allow Linah to grow up without enduring any disabilities or the social impact. Her father's personal experience influenced the decision to bring Linah to our medical partner's care center: Plaster House. He was also once treated at the facility, and the positive outcome of his treatment has instilled confidence in their family regarding Plaster House's expertise and commitment to providing quality care. Linah's mother wishes to see her daughter receive the same level of treatment and care that her spouse received in the past. However, due to the family's limited financial resources, they cannot afford the costs associated with Linah's treatment. Thankfully, Linah had the opportunity to visit Arusha Lutheran Medical Centre, our medical partner's care center. On June 13th, skilled surgeons will perform a clubfoot repair surgery for her. Our medical partner is seeking $935 to cover the costs of Linah's treatment. Following the intervention, she will be able to lead a rewarding life without the burdens imposed by clubfoot. Linah’s mother says, "I wish for my daughter to get good care and the best treatment that will give her a chance to live a life free from disability."

Meet Dot, a 63-year-old retired bicycle mechanic from Kampot province, where he lives with his wife, a local rice farmer. Dot is a proud parent to a daughter who is a teacher and a son who works as a car mechanic. Additionally, he is blessed with two grandchildren. At home, Dot likes to read the Koran and tinker with old bicycles to repair for the children in his village. Five years ago, Dot developed a cataract in his left eye, causing photophobia, itchiness, tearing, and blurry vision. It is difficult for him to read the Koran, and he has to rely mostly on touch, not sight, to fix bicycles for the neighborhood children. When Dot learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, he traveled for four hours seeking treatment. On July 18th, doctors will perform a minor incision cataract surgery, and an intraocular lens implant in his left eye. After recovery, he will be able to see clearly. Now, he needs help to fund this $253 procedure. Dot said: "I hope that after surgery, I can see better to easily go out, take care of my family, and help my wife at the rice field."

Soy is a 77-year-old grandmother from Kampot province, Cambodia. She has a big family - four sons, four daughters, and many grandchildren. One of her daughters is a rice farmer and Soy enjoys growing vegetables around their house to supplement their diet. She likes to cook for her family, take care of her grandchildren, and do housework for her daughter. On May 17th, 2023, Soy fell onto concrete while trying to get out of a hammock. She directly hit her left knee, and an x-ray revealed a fracture of the left femoral neck. Soy's family was not able to afford local care, so Soy's pain went untreated for almost a month. Her neighbor suggested she visit our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC). Soy and her daughter traveled for three hours seeking treatment for her pain and inability to walk. On July 4th, surgeons at CSC will perform a hip hemiarthroplasty procedure on her left hip. This will help her to regain mobility. Soy and her family need help to raise $544 to fund her procedure and care. This will include surgery, implants, medications, and hospital care. Soy said, "after surgery, I hope I can walk and don’t have pain anymore. I want to help my daughter and grandchildren and enjoy my simple life."
