Roeun, who is 65 years old, is a retired rice farmer living in Kampong Cham province. She has five sons and 17 grandchildren. She shared that her husband abandoned the family several years ago, leaving Roeun to parent alone. All of her sons work far from home, so she lives with her sister, and receives financial support from her children. She helps care for her grandchildren, and in her free time, she likes to listen to monks chanting on the radio. One year ago Roeun developed a cataract in her right eye, causing her tearing, and blurry vision. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, and is reluctant to do things on her own, due to her vision. When Roeun learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, she traveled for four and a half hours to seek treatment. On April 4th, doctors at Kien Khleang National Rehabilitation Centre will perform cataract surgery, and implant an intraocular lens in her right eye. After recovery, Roeun will be able to see clearly. Now, she needs your help to fund this $253 procedure. Roeun said: "I hope I can see everything and recognize faces after surgery."

Mai Yas is fruit seller from Kampot province. She is a 60-year-old widow and has one son, three daughters, and five grandchildren. She lives with her youngest son who sells fruit at the local market. When she is not taking care of her grandchildren, she likes to go to the mosque. Three years ago, Mai Yas developed a cataract in her left eye, causing her itchiness, tearing, and blurry vision. She is often lonely when she is the only person in the house and misses her independence. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, including colors and faces, and is worried about falling when walking, so is not able to go places on her own. Upon discovering our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, Mai Yas embarked on a three-hour journey to seek treatment. On June 6th, a team of doctors will conduct a small incision cataract surgery and implant an intraocular lens in her left eye. Upon recuperation, her vision will be significantly improved. However, she currently requires financial support to cover the cost of this $253 procedure. She said: "I hope after surgery I can see better, go out by myself, and do housework well."

Chana is a curious 15-month-old toddler from Cambodia. She is an only child who lives with her parents in Takeo province. Her mother is a homemaker, while her father manages a farm. In 2022, when Channa was about a year old and learning to walk, she grabbed a handle from a pan of boiling water on the stove and severely burned her left arm. She was treated for the burn at a local clinic, but she has developed burn scar contractures on her left elbow and axilla. These scars make it difficult for her to raise her arm or to use her hand. She cries when her mother tries to stretch the skin to massage it. Chana's parents sought care from our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre. On May 4th, surgeons at Kien Khleang National Rehabilitation Centre will perform burn contracture release surgery, which should enable Chana to use her arm fully as she explores the world. Now, Chana and her family need your help to fund this $495 procedure. Chana's mother said: "I hope Chana will feel comfortable and use her hand and arm again when she goes to school. We cannot afford to go to the local clinic, and hope that the doctors at CSC can help her."
