Joseph is a 53-year-old father who practices small-scale farming with his wife. They own a 3-room mud house for shelter. Their firstborn is 30 years old and got married after primary school class seven, while their youngest is 4 years old and in baby junior class. For two years, Joseph has had a hydrocele, or swelling in his groin area. The area of swelling has progressively increased in size. He first thought it was a temporary condition and did not bother seeking treatment. However, it has persisted, and he feels severe pain whenever he is working, making him less productive. Joseph sought treatment and surgery was recommended by his medical team. Fortunately, our medical partner African Mission Healthcare (AMH) can help. Joseph is scheduled to undergo hernia repair surgery on August 18th. AMH is requesting $170 to fund the surgery. Once completed, this procedure will hopefully allow him to live more comfortably and confidently. Joseph shared, “After treatment, I will continue with farming to be able to meet my family’s cost of living.”

Meet 42-year-old Khin who lives with her husband in Thailand. Both Khin and her husband work in a wool factory. In March 2023, Khin felt overwhelmingly tired. She received an injection at a local clinic, but she didn't feel any better. A few days later she became dizzy, and fainted. Subsequently, she developed back pain and gastrointestinal issues. She has now been diagnosed with a myoma - or uterine fibroid - and advised to have her uterus and cervix surgically removed, to prevent future health complications. Khin is scheduled to undergo a total abdominal hysterectomy on May 25th, at Mae Sot General Hospital. Our medical partner, Burma Children Medical Fund, is requesting $1,500 to cover the total cost of her procedure and care. Once she has recovered, Khin's overall health should improve, and she will be free of the pain that currently lives with. Khin said: “When I first heard that I would need surgery, I felt stressed because I have no money. But when I learned that I have a donor, I felt relieved. In the future, I will continue to work in the factory.”

Generious is an outgoing, articulate, and confident lady in her 50s from Uganda. She has been a widow for the last 18 years but has managed to raise and support all her children with the income she earns from farming. She is a mother to four children: three daughters and one son. Two of her daughters are married and work as teachers, while the youngest is still in school. Her son is a farmer. Education was not highly valued in their generational era, so Generious did not receive any formal education. In her free time, she is often at home engaged in domestic chores such as cooking, cleaning, and washing. Her primary source of income is farming, where she predominantly grows food crops to feed her family and sells the surplus for additional income. Generious sought medical attention due to a swelling on her left leg, which she has been experiencing for a year. This condition causes numbness and tingling, paralysis, and pain when walking. After consulting with a doctor, she was advised to undergo a scan, which revealed a ganglionic cyst. The recommended treatment is excision; however, she is unable to raise the funds needed for the surgery and, therefore, appeals for your support. Generious traveled to our medical partner's care center to receive treatment. On November 22, surgeons will remove the mass. Now, Generious needs help to raise $137 to fund this procedure. Generious says, “I am passing through a lot of pain but hope with your support, I will be operated on and will surely get well.”
