Elibaraka is a 12-year-old student from Tanzania. He is the third child in his family of four kids. He attends a boarding school for most of the year, and when is home with his family, he helps care for his mother.
Elibaraka experienced a serious fire accident in 2015 that caused him to receive burns across his body. He received treatment at that time to care for his wounds, but he is now experiencing burn scars that are making it challenging for him to use his hand. He visited our medical partner’s care center for treatment. On February 27th, Elibaraka will undergo burn contracture release surgery that will allow him to be able to use his hand pain-free. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare (AMH), is requesting $639 to fund Elibaraka’s procedure.
Elibaraka shared: “I know it will be hard for my mother to afford the treatment, but I hope it will be possible for me to get treatment.”

Elibaraka underwent burn contracture release surgery.
Elibariki has been on a challenging treatment journey, but he has recently undergone a successful burn scar contracture release on his right elbow. This procedure was necessary to address the limitations caused by the contracture, which had restricted the extension of his right hand. As Elibariki is right-handed, this limitation affected his ability to carry heavy things and made writing in class hard for him.
After the surgery, Elibariki is now receiving post-surgery care, which includes splinting and daily dressing due to signs of infection on his first dressing. However, with close nursing care and Elibariki diligently following the given instructions, the healing process is expected to be smooth.
This treatment has brought hope and relief to Elibariki as it will ease the discomfort he previously experienced when using his right hand, especially when carrying heavy objects like buckets of water. With improved mobility and reduced limitations, Elibariki can look forward to a more comfortable and functional use of his right hand, which will greatly enhance his daily life.
Elibaraka says, “During my care after surgery I can already feel the difference while using my arm. I am hopeful that it will be even better when I’m done with treatment.”
