Chiva is a 23-year-old server at a karaoke restaurant. He lives with his parents and younger sister in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. His parents work long days, six days per week in construction, and his sister is still in high school. Chiva helps support his family by working in a nearby karaoke restaurant. In his free time, he enjoys playing soccer and volleyball. In September 2022, Chiva was in a motorbike accident that caused a fracture in his right leg. It is difficult for him to walk, and he has a chronic infection in his wound. Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC), can help. On July 26th, Chiva will undergo a fracture repair procedure to help him walk easily again. CSC is requesting $483 to fund this surgery. Chiva said, "I hope I can walk like before the accident and go back to work full-time."

Nicol lives with her mother in a city in central Bolivia. She is in kindergarten and loves to paint and watch cartoons. Her mother bakes and sells desserts for a living. Nicol was born with a cardiac condition called patent ductus arteriosus, in which a hole exists between two major blood vessels near the heart. Blood leaks through this hole, leaving her weak and short of breath. Our partner facility International Cardiac Alliance is requesting $1,500 to fund cardiac surgery for Nicol. During surgery, doctors will tie the hole closed so that blood no longer leaks through it. Once recovered, Nicol will have improved strength and breathing. If left untreated, it could leave to heart failure. Nicol's mother shared: "Our family was so afraid that our daughter might never be able to have this surgery. We are very happy to know it will happen soon!"

Meng Lik lives in Kandal province with his parents and younger brother. His father works in construction, and his mom works in a nearby handbag factory. He enjoys running around with his little brother and watching cartoons. Two months ago, he was playing at home and fell with is left arm outstretched and dislocated his elbow. His family went to a traditional healer but Meng Lik is still in pain. They then brought him to a nearby clinic, where they were told he needed surgery. He's lost some function in his arm and hand, and is still in pain. A surgery can restore function in his arm and hand, and the Children's Surgical Centre is requesting $469 to cover his procedure, physiotherapy, and follow-up care. His mom shared, "I hope he can move his arm again and be able to play and start school next year."
