An is a 58-year-old rice farmer. She is married and has one son, two daughters, and six grandchildren. She lives with her husband, who is also a farmer. An likes to join ceremonies at the pagoda and listen to monk pray on the radio.
One year ago, An developed a cataract in her right eye, causing her to experience eye tearing and blurry vision. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, including colors and faces, and is worried about falling when walking, so she is not able to go places on her own.
When An learned about our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, she traveled for two and a half hours seeking treatment. On August 4th, doctors will perform cataract surgery and place an intraocular lens implant in her right eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Now, she needs help funding this $253 procedure.
An says, “I hope after surgery I can see well enough to go outside on my own, do my housework, and return to planting rice.”

An underwent cataract surgery so she can do her daily activities without difficulty.
An had a successful surgery and was able to return home the following day. She rested for a few days and will apply eye drops for the next two weeks as she heals. This surgery is life changing for her since it enables her to care for her grandchildren, which was not possible before due to her inability to see well enough previously. She is grateful she has had the chance to improve her eyesight so that she can help support the family.
An said: “After surgery, my eyesight is much better. I won’t worry about falling and can help my daughter around the house. I am so appreciative of the help from the staff and the donors who paid for my surgery.”
